Sorry for the hate, but 343, how can you call this a Halo game? Your game should not be built around Esports. Esports should be built around the game just like all the previous Halo games.
To all the people who don’t understand what I just said, 343 continues to show thier Arena game mode. While I know most people would end up playing Arena, not everybody just wants to be a ‘wannabe pro player’ and wants to see more what the game has to offer. Competitive Halo (i.e. MLG) use custom games and forge to make their competitive settings to their liking. Bungie just gave the players a large sandbox of everything in the Halo universe at time to give players all the tools they need to make anything gametype to their liking (MLG, Grifball, Halo 3 ninja/race maps, etc. If 343 is truly making “the biggest Halo experience ever” well…
-Halo 5 should have AT LEAST Halo Reach level Custom Game options
-Halo 5 should build upon Halo Reach’s custom options, not Halo 4’s because…Reach had WAY MORE options
-Halo 5 should support LAN (since you guys seem to love Esports so much maybe you should support the best way to play Esports…duh)
-Big Team Battle should be available at launch (Who made the executive decision to not have the most played playlist available at launch?)
-Playble Elites
-Split-screen support( if 343 can’t maintain a consistent 60fps in 4 games that were released between 3 - 14 years ago, what make you think they could maintain 60fps on a brand new game? Just bring it back, Halo has done well enough running at 30fps with split screen support. Stop taking away features!!!)
For a summary, just read the bold print
Even with that list of yours, still looks like a Halo game to me.
It looks like a Halo game… It feels like a Halo game… It sounds like a Halo game… Hell, it even tastes like a Halo game.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s a Halo game… weird concept, I know.
Halo 5 is definitely a Halo game, mate. It can easily slide right between Halo 2 and 3.
Judging from your list, I don’t think you know what a Halo game is.
Also they haven’t revealed Forge’s features yet, stop jumping to conclusions.

I think you are imagining Call of Duty. Which is what this “5” game you are talking about is. I will never say the word Halo followed by that number

Halo 5 is definitely a Halo game, mate. It can easily slide right between Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3.
Fixed that for ya
Halo 5 isn’t a halo game. It has halo in the title so it’s obviously call of duty

You my friend, share the same thoughts of this game. Honestly I think people who played Halo since 2007 (first got xbox live during summer 2007 with Halo 2) know how I feel about what has been shown about Halo 5.

Dude i watched that tournament and all the players were running over BRs cause they didnt want them. It has turned into a run and gun game that is a resemblence of CoD and Titanfall. Halo used to be copied and now 343 is just copying others. Back in 2006 when I got Xbox Live I have been playing Halo ever since. I now realize that once MCC “dies” I either have to find some other franchise to latch onto or hang up the controller

Does that mean the only game you play is halo? If so then yeah, you do need to get into more games

Same with me. I might get that Gears of War Ultimate Edition. I got into Gears when my brother came back from college and bought Gears 2, we played split screen campaign. Ever since that day I ended up getting every other Gears game since. At least the Gears developers know how to stay true to their franchise.

I honestly might just pull out that old SNES and never look back
Disappointed, I figured this would be an entirely different type of conversation based on the title.

The default gamemodes (Slayer, Oddball, CTF, etc) are all competitive in nature. There’s no gimmicks, it’s just two teams competing to see which is the better team. Thus, they should be designed around this purpose. The problem with previous Halo games was that slayer was usually just a collection of the entire sandbox thrown into a blender without any thought put into it.
Once you have the hard part down of balancing the core game, you can throw in whatever for fun gamemodes (Zombies, Griffball, Race, Etc) you want without any issues.
Yes, that’s why I want it on my hands right now, I look at r/halo everyday, I need a time machine

Show me CoD’s emphasis on Map control, its even starts, it’s gunplay focused on skill and accuracy.
Oh wait.
You can’t.
People love to call Halo 5 Call of Duty, but not once have I seen someone every list the reasons. As far as I can see, CoD is trying to be more like Halo (Replacing the Knife for a weapon melee) and Halo wants to be Halo.

You really believe having the sandbox available to you during a regular game of slayer was a problem? You must have not liked vanilla Slayer in Halo 1, 2, 3, or 4

If Halo wanted to be Halo they’ll keep features that were staples in the original trilogy and build upon options from older games.
If the transition from Reach to Halo 4 is any evidence, this isn’t the case.

Agree with a lot of the OP…but especially ^these two points^.
I think it’s ridiculous that 343 already stated they would be making one of the same exact mistakes they made with Halo 4 - Launching with a poor and limited selection of playlists.
For those who may not know . . . Since H2, there’s been 5-6 playlists that have always maintained the largest populations over each Halo game’s life-span. Yes, even including Halo 4 and Halo: Reach. The top-6 (in no particular order) are as follows:
-
Big Team Battle
-
Team Slayer
-
SWAT
-
Lone Wolves (“Rumble Pit”)
-
Team Snipers
-
BTB Skirmish (if offered…was in H2 and it was in the top-3)
There are 3 playlists which have always maintained their own consistent, healthy populations, but just on a slightly lower tier than the ones listed above. Those playlists are:
-
Team Doubles
-
Team Objective (when separated into individual playlists, population numbers are very low, and a playlist hopper has essentially been wasted)
-
MLG (“Team Hardcore”)
Then there are a couple playlists which are on a lower tier, with regards to population, but still attract enough of a consistent and sizable crowd to warrant their permanence in any current Halo title. Those are:
-
Action Sack
-
Multi-Team
-
(Invasion/Flood may deserve to be placed here, but I can’t say I know for sure)
Finally, there are a few playlists that do not deserve permanence, and their appeal is usually maximized when they are used as “featured” playlists, and they are:
-
Griffball
-
Ricochet
-
Race
-
Etc. etc. etc.H2 was the first Halo that offered online MP. That started back in 2004, meaning there will be almost 11 years worth of this data available to 343. I do not understand why we cannot buy a Halo game in 2015, knowing we will be able to play our favorite Halo playlists once the game is installed and ready to be played. I’m all for new playlists to be given a chance, i.e., Warzone, but what I’m totally against is the crap 343 pulls with SWAT, Team Snipers, and clearly now BTB too. Put the best playlists in the damn game from the get-go.
It’s seems like somebody has forgotten they lost practically all their online population last time they made a Halo game. Give people reasons to sign in and play! If your game is worth playing, they’ll play it enough to give your new Warzone a fair chance. Sure, they may not try it the first night, or even the first week, but if you make a quality game, it will be given a try. If your core playlists cannot hold players’ attention, Warzone better be good enough to spawn its own little sub-franchise/series, because these playlists I’ve listed above are the franchise you inherited, 343. Learn from your mistakes! Why you can’t seem to figure out playlists? I will never understand.
