I think that when Bungie releases Destiny, a large portion of the Halo community will set sights away from Halo to the new series that looks extremely satisfying to any science fiction lover.
It will all depend on the success of the next 343i game though.
Is this that same “large portion” of the Halo community that wants “competitive, arena-style multiplayer” back or the portion that hates “always-online?” Destiny sure as hell doesn’t fit that bill…

Anyone know if destiny will be on PC as well?
As someone who wants a competitive arena style shooter and hates always online, I think I can make an exception here.
They are still debating on whether to have Destiny on PC, we will have to wait for further updates.
I, for one, think the game will be a success and people may switch over from other games, who knows.
Sounds quite plausible.
With the way things have been going for the last few years for Halo, I’d be surprised if there was any active multiplayer part of the community at all by the time Destiny appears.
Given what has happened, what 343 has done, etc., I think that people will swarm to Destiny, and what remains of Halo, if anything, will fade further into irrelevance.
Don’t get me wrong; I absolutely love Halo, since my sophomore year in high school back in '03, but even I have my doubts.
As things stand now, Microsoft and 343 would be better off making Halo 5 and 6 single player-only, and being game rental-equivalents at best.
Or, they could simply substitute Halo 5 and 6 with 2 books, and call it a day.
For all of my affection for Halo, 4 included, perhaps this would be the best thing for 343 to do, in light of their transgressions and the backlash they’ve received from the gaming community.

Gamers have different interests, not just the same style. When they see another game that looks good, allows freedom to go wherever you want, and is also about humans vs aliens, they’ll want to check it out.
Halo will always have it’s same style, but some WILL be enticed.
Maybe not large portions, I apologize.

Yeah, cuz everyone that disliked what Bungie did to Halo with Reach is gonna love what they do with Destiny…
I’m not looking forward to destiny.

Then again Destiny isn’t trying to sell itself as Halo.
