Yesterday I decided to started playing Arena with one of my uni friends who is new to halo 5. At the start of the session he was ranked Silver 1 and I was Diamond 2 meaning that all the people we played against were in the high gold/low platinum range. Because I’m used to playing diamonds, we won every single game and now I’m a Diamond 5 and my friend is a silver 4. Surely if I kept on playing with this guy I could work my way up into Onyx without actually playing anybody of that rank? I mean playing with other Diamond 1s is hard enough for me, so now I’m screwed if I go into arena alone. Is this a known ‘Boosting’ technique? Is there a way to stop myself ranking up, or is this just one of the downsides to the CSR system?
Won’t you level up a lot slower though,
Its not an exploit, its just the way the rankings work. You should find that when you do lose a couple of games then your rank will drop quite a lot so it should balance out before you hit Onyx…on the other hand, if you do keep on winning then you may well hit Onyx even if you don’t want to, but the ranks should reset in a few days anyway so shouldn’t be too much to worry about if you now have players that you play with regularly. The alternative when you find yourself in a rank that is too high for you is to create and play on a secondary gt.

I’ve experienced that every single level takes the same amount of wins. for example:
Diamond 1 > diamond 2 is let’s say 3 wins?
Bronze 1 > bronze 2 is also 3 wins.
I’ve experienced this in any playlist, different accounts that you need the same amount of wins to level up. It’s not like you level up faster because you got placed in a low rank and do extremely well.

Thanks.
So it’s not like that, but it should be.

Yes but that isn’t what he means. How the system works is if a diamond plays a platinum player the diamond player would gain less exp to level up than he would if beat another diamond player. Same if the diamond player loses against a platinum player he would lose more exp than he would losing against another platinum player.
Vice versa the platinum player would gain lots of exp for beating the diamond player and lose a lot less for losing against the diamond player.
So in one game I guess is is possible if you are diamond 5 nearing diamond six and you play someone who is bronze or silver rank and lose you could easily drop down from diamond 5 to diamond 4 or 3 for losing 1 game because you lost to someone far below your own skill level.

I’m pretty sure that me and my silver friend have been ranking up at more or less exactly the same rate though, despite the fact that he is playing people far better than him and I’m playing people far worse than me. I always thought your theory was right though, maybe it’s because we haven’t lost yet. I’ll probably rank back down to where I belong when we lose!

Okay well I can’t say for sure how it is working for you in a party. I play solo most of the time I’ve watched the progress bar on waypoint when playing games if I play golds and win my progress bar increases less than it does if I beat players of the same rank etc.
