The melee kill challenges are terrible to begin with but why do I have challenge after challenge after challenge where I have to get melee kills IN LAST MAN STANDING!? Is 343 just trying to make sure I don’t win any matches while I’m going through my challenges? What is the logic behind this nonsense?

The logic is you have money. 343 would like to get that money from you. If they make the game suck -Yoink!-, you might be tempted to spend money for challenge swap tokens. But how to do that without getting you to realize their motive and end goal?

Time to suit up Spartan and get stealthy! Camp around a corner and beat that opponent to death and complete the challenge!
I do that ngl. It works well. That and active cam. Or just use overshield and charge in like the chad Jorge lol

All up to RNG as far as I could tell. I only ended up with one. But it was easier then headshot kills in LSS at least.
I luckily missed the worst challenge though, which is back hand blows.
I was plagued with the excessive melee/backslap kill Challenges, not only for this event but last event with LSS.
Fortunately, with the Event Challenges giving you double the rewards, I ended up just getting all the rewards and not completing any of the rest of the Challenges cause I had no interest in a Tactical Clippy charm. Easiest week for me to not complete
