If you’re not playing with a group of your friends good luck figuring out what the hell is happening at any given time in this game. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy H4 a ton but the lack of communication and team play is all but gone in solo play. Everyone is Lone Wolf and is doing there own thing which is nothing new to Halo but it was never as much of an issue in the past.
That was mostly due to the fact we all had an indicator marking where the action was through a giant red X on our head every time a teammate died.
Even in team play it’s significantly harder to communicate who’s dying where or where enemy one shots are. Worst is I’ve never seen any reason of why it needed to be taken out of the game.
Maybe I’m just alone on this but I feel as if my team mates aren’t in line of sight they way as well be playing a different game.
I agree, though this is a game I can play by myself because I tend to lone wolf it on this game. I’ve given up on team work in video games. Only time it’s actually worked is when I played mw2 and BFBC2/BF3 religiously, I had a set group of guys I played with every night and we pretty much ran things. Same group of us play on here, but it’s just harder to do because it doesn’t seem like a team oriented game (as far as slayer goes, CTF is a different story).
Well, I feel the opposite. I have a set team to play with so it usually works out. Also, about the giant red x, I believe it now shows up on the radar instead of the screen.
I know that it shows up on radar but really? If my ally is THAT close for him to be visible on radar chances are I’m well aware of what’s going on. The range is so small that X may as well be non existent…

does it really matter if a team mate dies across the map though? youre not in danger, you probably wont get there in time to finish the kill, especially with the map size now, and if you do, he will probably be gone. X’s on radar is perfect because it gives you a sense of immediate danger.
With the range on the DMR I’d honestly say there would be well over 1 million “should have been deaths” if their general location had been readily available like it’s been since Halo 2.
Taking the red X symbol away from onscreen was one of the WROST things about the game.
Has anyone at 343 actually played halo ?.
You cant say ‘on my X’ anymore, because no one knows where that is. For example you die but you had sniper normally you would say ‘sniper on my X’ so a team mate could try and grab the snipe.
But now it doesnt work because the ‘X’ is only on the motion tracker.
If a team mate dies across the map before they could say ‘guy with rockets on my X’ warning your team not to engage.
But now how to you explain it to your team ?, no one really knows the call outs either.
I have noticed the lack of teamplayers. I’ve been able to get some teamwork on Capture the flag but not much. Also I’m not happy with dropping in on a game in progress. Usually I’ve been dropped in cuz half the team quit cuz they were losing. So now my score cant build cuz half the game is over and my team already is losing bad. Maybe its just me but it seems to happen more then not.
The lack of a need to push towards key weapon spawns because people are rewarded for hanging back to pick off kills is extremely annoying. I am a reasonably aggressive player and I find myself sitting back more than usual because there is often no reason to move; instead you just kill a couple of people and bing here’s a shiny new sniper.
Join in progress is definitely not helping the situation either.
I find this is a common trend these days. In order to have teamwork you need communication and nobody in the lobby is using a mic. This is a problem not only in Halo but in all games. People used to use mics more on the original xbox than they do now. I think people got so used to in game voice comms being so dead due to XBL party chat people don’t even bother plugging in their mic anymore unless they are playing with friends. Look at BF3 for instance. I can count how many times on my one hand when I have heard people using the in game chat to communicate to their team and that entire game is built on teamwork yet nobody uses it.

Yeah, for being a game built on teamwork, BF3 is terrible for it. I blame it on COD converts (COD4/Mw2 -Yoink!- here, but I have like 600 hours into BF3 lol.), that game revolves around lone wolfing, even though me and my guys all worked as a team.
