Is there any way to reduce lag in matchmaking?

I’ve just got onto Reach for the first time in a week. I had been looking forward to finally getting back onto Reach all week, when I’m greeted with constant lag, terrible host, blood shots, killed through walls, general shots not registering, assassinations not registering, the list is endless. All of this resulted in 5 rage quits in a row. Now, I wanted to work out what the problem might be. My first step in doing so was to go onto speedtest.net. I took the test, and here were the results:

-Download speed: 6.84mbps (however, when I have previously tested it, it was 0.89mbps. I haven’t found an average yet)

-Upload speed: 0.36mbps

As far as I know, these speeds aren’t the best. Are they even suitable for reliable and smooth online gaming?

Now, upon further investigation, I found out I should be getting around 20mbps of download speed (it didn’t say upload speed). So, should I complain to my Internet provider that the speeds that they advertised aren’t been met? Should I just put up with it and stop being a raging idiot? Should I just get a completely different Internet provider? Or is there a completely different solution altogether?

More info: I have the Xbox 360 slim with 250GB, an ethernet cable, my Internet provider is BT, and I live in the South West of England.

Apologies if this is in the wrong topic thingy.

Honestly, you’re going to have more trouble since most of your games are going to be travelling through the Atlantic Ocean. The problem isn’t mbs down or up, it’s the huge ping (travel time of the data) that’s going to be the issue, although your upload seemed a little low to me. You could try pinging servers in the US and see what happens, and see if its better with a different ISP at a friends house or something.

I live in South West England and have almost perfect connections.

American server test.

Here are the results of 5 tests:

-Ping: 295, 155, 195, 155, 175

-Download: 1.99, 6.65, 4.81, 4.34, 3.89

-Upload: 0.32, 0.37, 0.37, 0.35, 0.33

So, here are the averages:

Ping = 975/5 = 195ms

Download = 21.64/5 = 5.114mbps

Upload = 1.74/5 = 0.348mbps

Is that good or bad?

Any chance you can connect directly to your modem or bridge your modem/router and sign in using the credentials on your 360?

This will eliminate the NAT, even when your 360 reports open NAT some hardware can still be causing issues.
