Is there any lunge on the sword?

It looks like there’s is absolutely 0 lunge, and that they nerfed it into a nearly useless weapon. Before you comment, I ask that people do not say that lunge is considered a bad thing all of a sudden, because of Reach. If you were to say it’s because of sprint, then I’d understand but no rage or blind hate comments towards lunge.

Now, I personally think it needs to be increased in Halo 4 a little (not an op increase). I say this because we have the slow down mechanic, so we should at least get a decent sword. It looks as if you have to be directly in front to just get a kill. That’s not a needed nerf.

The sword is known to lunge, but I see none…
Edit: Also, we wont have a chance at shotgun users with this pathetic version. Just look at how infection would be with a no lunge sword.

I would have to agree

Lunge is still in. Nerfing the lunge on a one-hit kill weapon that you can sprint up to enemies with will not make it useless.

I’ve not seen any sword gameplay yet but Reach lunge was easily preventable with 2 Plasma Pistol shots and a headshot, it wasn’t THAT hard to defend against

I thought that the Reach lunge was great. But in Reach, we had no slow-down mechanic, so the only way to stop them, would be to kill them.

But seeing as we now have a slow-down mechanic, I think the lunge should be increased. Also, everyone has sprint, so if they see you with a sword, they’re gonna try to run away.
Yet another reason to add more lunge.

Hmmm I remember seeing a lunge though. I’ll have to have a mooch around and see if it’s in any of the new footage, might have missed a nerf.

I hope you’re not right… it needs a lunge, that’s why it’s a power weapon. If it’s been nerfed I won’t bother picking it up since everyone can now sprint at will lol.

The only sword gameplay I’ve seen was the MLG gameplay on Adrift, and whoever was using the sword (I think it was bestman) was utterly failing to slash at the right moment.

So I can’t really comment on the lunge for the time being. Just so long as sprint+sword isn’t as OP as it was in reach, I’ll be good.

Sprint was a huge buff for melee power weapons. I don’t see a problem with a decent nerf to them afterwards. Sword Block (shudder) was an attempt at that, but I think this is a better solution.

Or…we could remove sprint…but that won’t happen.

> Lunge is still in. Nerfing the lunge on a one-hit kill weapon that you can sprint up to enemies with will not make it useless.

with it’s slow activation speed, needed dead-on accuracy, no range, everyone being able to sprint…

You’re better off with the shotgun, since it actually has range from the PAX gameplay.

OT: In each iteration, the sword has slowly been turning from a power weapon into more of a decorative knife

Lunge is definitely still in, but it’s been toned down quite a bit. The addition of sprint for everyone means that it’s easier to get in close, so that lunge isn’t quite as necessary.

I think it’s a good thing. The sword in Reach is just WAY too powerful. I was watching some Halo 2 gameplay today, and I liked how the sword worked. It’s lunge was too far for my taste, but the reticle was small and actually had to be right on the person. It should have a reduced lunge and a small reticle. Either that, or what I saw on MLG Adrift, which was normal-sized reticle and virtually nonexistent lunge. Sprint + no lunge is more effective than no sprint + lunge. If everybody has Sprint by default, there’s really no need for a lunge.

Agreed, only a slight buff. I’d be fine with just the Reach sword a little less. I’ve just seen people utterly fail at very close range. If anything they should be getting a kill from someone 3 steps away.

Except the Sword still has some range, and lunge. You just need a red reticle for the Sword to kill, while the Shotgun needs to land enough pellets to kill.

I hope they take out all lunge

I’ve seen the sword in action in one of the PAX videos (grifball vid for example), hell I used the sword when I was at RTX, it’s range felt stripped to what feels like half of Reach’s which is pretty insignificant for the sword. Compare that to the shotgun. The shotgun looks to be more like it’s reach incarnation where it can make killing shots beyond the range of the sword.

Getting in range of the ball carrier in grifball with the sword is going to be a drag…

I know. It was a pain in the -Yoink- in Reach…and the sword is now only a shadow of it’s former lessened self. So that pain is just gonna be…you know what? screw it. The sword is nerfed to hell, I’m just going to use the hammer.

As much as I hate the thought of it. I was thinking of using the hammer now as well. At least it’s still in tact, despite what people say about the sound. The shotgun appears to be the same in general. The sword… doesn’t seem worthwhile to use it, except that you get the bomb instantly.

Infection is going to be terribad bad for zombies. With a TU like pistol already and a nice shotgun. The zombies will have to really on speed even more and a sucky human.

zombies should have stronger shields. The point of infection was to group together and survive as long as you can. It was meant to be a chore for the survivors. But Reach turned it into a -Yoink!- game of duck hunt.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Lunge could be adjusted in Custom Games.
