First of all, I am a dear fan of the franchise and have played most games excluding ODST and Halo 2.
I was so excited for Halo 4 and I didn’t wan’t to worry about halo having a new developer at the steering wheel, but now after playing I was pretty disappointed with some of the choices in the multiplayer, yeah sure there were other aspects of the game that I didn’t particularly care for, certain major points in the story seemed generic and cliched, but thats all forgivable because overall the campaign was pretty okay, understandably this is there first game and It was rushed out to fast.
One thing that really just ruined it for me was the catering to the more casual audience. Now don’t get me wrong I don’t really care who plays halo, casuals or who ever it doesn’t matter to me, It’s just the way they went about doing it. I don’t really need to make a list you all know what I’m talking about. The problem is it goes against everything that made halo multiplayer fun to play, It was all about fairness and equal opportunity now all that doesn’t matter in this game its all about how high your rank is and all the “cool and neat” things you can equip into battle.
So now 343i has pushed away there core fanbase and isn’t keeping the attention of the casual fanbase because there are, Honestly , games that do the class warfare better(which I’m pretty sick of myself). It just does NOT work in a halo game.
So I really wan’t to know what you guys think. I just hope that Halo 5 has that core balanced and equal opportunity gameplay that we all loved so much. Honestly
I don’t know what to think of 343i, It seems the only huge changes are just from others games, uninventive ideas or poor strategies to get people to play more or whatever that whole rotating playlist thing is.
So tell me what do you think of Halo 4 and 343i?
Thanks for reading, I apologize if my writing skill is sub-par
343 should not have tried to pull of a class based shooter. Its trying to modernize Halo into the industry and I’m not to fond of that. Keep the Halo 2 formula of simplicity with neat features not in other games. Good maps, Dual-Wielding, jacking vehicles, and playing as elites are all I need in Halo. No equipment, no AAs, not gimmicks.
As far as I’m concerned, Halo 4 is a good game. I enjoyed it, but not as much as the others. A lot of the new features 343 added I’m okay with, they were just poorly done.
But to be honest, Halo 5 and 6 have a lot of potential. After learning their lesson’s from Halo 4. I hope 343 will actually talk to the community and ask us what we want to see. Have an open forum, hear our ideas, have a beta.
And for the love of God keep flinch out of Halo 5 and 6. This was perhaps the most pointless design choice in all of Halo 4.
I like custom loadouts. When I played Halo 3 and Reach, I was hoping to finally see them in Halo game. Now there they are, and my only problem with them are balance issues. I mean DMR.
343i pushed Halo 4 away from it’s core base? Well, I’ve played Halo CE since 2003 (that’s since it came out for pc - I didn’t have first Xbox console). I haven’t played Halo 2 online (Xbox Live! wasn’t available in my country at that time) so I don’t know how much “core” I’m. To be honest I always prefered faster, more skillful, (don’t kill me for that) more competitive online shooters like Quakes or Unreal Tournaments, played with high sensitive mouse. Halo 3 was very funny, but 10 years after my first rocket jump, I really didn’t got this “competitive” feel. I’m also older, so I have not that much time competiting with those, who learned how to play Halo right after they learned to walk.
Halo 3 and Reach was for me kind of console substitute of pc games from my youth. They were ok, but not as “competitive” as some people claims, and with so many iritating little things (like lack of JIP or overpowered starting weapons turning matches into boring BR/DMR-fests) that really didn’t allow me to play them more in my free time, so most of time I was choosing other console shooters instead.
When I played first few matches in Halo 4, well, I felt this game is real deal. Belive me, I played other shooters a lot, and Halo 4 is very, very unique (unless you play SWAT with Fistick control scheme - that way I choose CoD over it). Almost everything I hated in previous Halo games got fixed by JIP or Custom Loadouts, and everything I liked (like weapon-melee-grenade triangle) is still here. Because of default sprint whole gameplay got boost, and when something is happening in some other place of map, I still am able to got into action. I must admit gameplay is more enjoyable than in previous Halo, but not because of this “it’s a COD!” thing everyone is mumbling about. I feel it’s much more similar to fps classics like Quake or UT, but much more accesible, as console pad-controlled shooter should be.
Only real problem I have with Halo 4 is overpowered DMR, which destroys custom loadouts idea, just like it detroys BTB gameplay. Split screen frame rate issues should be fixed as well.
No. There are too many other good games. Back then, Halo was the go-to game. Now there are numerous shooters, so Halo HAS to be able to compete, even if it means changing up the gameplay for majority of players. Halo 5-6 will just be another game to waste the excitement. I’m sure it will be okay, but never be like the good Halo’s.
Im mixed, I like AA’s there way better save for camo but i myself have been able to defeat camo campers easily everyone else is a different story. Ordinance is bad at the moment but i still belive it can work its the power weeapons inside it thats causeing the problem. If it were to get rid of power weapons and replace them with AA’s, and starter weapons i belive it wouldnt be a big problem. It could also just fit into the classic playstyle just make ordinance be a mechanism for delivering AA’s but instead its dependent on the teams situation in game like if team A gets to a certain amount of kills before team B they get an ordinance drop at there base of AA’s or power ups for manuverabilty maybe and team B can get ones like sentry or health regen or a hardlight sheild. IDK just some ideas to get the mix of both styles and make it work.
I’m a Halo fan and in all honestly I probably always will be. However, Halo 4 was far, far, FAAARRR from perfect and 343i need to buck their ideas up and start exceeding expectations in Halo 5/6 if they want to continue to be viable. My attention is soon going to be split between Halo 4, Gears Judgment, and Destiny when it’s released, so 343 have their work cut out for them. There’s no such thing as a guaranteed or “safe” franchise any more, and even a giant like Halo can, and will, die if the userbase goes elsewhere.

> As a player who has been here since the start, I enjoy halo 4 more than I ever enjoyed halo 2.
I played Halo 2 from the start to the final days before the shutdown and have to say I enjoy Halo 4 slightly more. Halo 2, in its glory, was broken. People just get nostalgic for the online population and the endless custom games.
And yes, I think the franchise will be fine. It’s as simple as a binary choice for each playlist - one class based and the other catering to our competitive players who insist on spoiling the enjoyment that us casual users are getting out of the new format
At this point no on class based shooters. They can’t even post in their own forums to engage, lead, and excite the community, or even keep a DLC map pack from disintegrating off their own play lists. Let alone make a game that can pull away COD or BF3 players. Halo 5 and 6 will be a cash grab while 343 is counseled to say nothing and take no chances based on demographics and XBL charts and a schism of a community breathing down their necks.
But you have to unlock it. Say you have been playing halo for along time and have everything unlocked and have all these perks and guns etc. and lets say I just bought the game and just started playing, who do you think is gonna win?
Comparing Halo 4 to Halo 2 and Halo 3 isnt fair IMO. Halo 2 was the first of its kind. A console online FPS multiplayer. Sure it was flawed but there was nothing to judge it by but a pc FPS. Fixes were made to it and it took a special place in the hearts of gamers. It drove and shaped what we now know as Xbox Live. No game will ever be like it because of the impact it had on the future of console gaming.
Halo 3 had a major task in its own right. It had to follow up Halo 2 and help to sell the 360. It did that in spades. Many bought a 360 just for Halo 3. It took everything good from Halo 2 and added many new features that players loved. Theres also one thing many fail to remember about Halo 3…there was nothing to challenge it either. COD and BF were nothings at the time. Crysis was a pc only game. The Playstation had nothing that even came close to it. Halo 3 was a king without opposition.
Now we come to Halo 4. The start of a new trilogy, a new developer, and in a very different market. Halo was no longer king. It had the task of trying to bring the franchise back to the throne after the many issues of Reach. In that end im afraid it failed. Halo launched with many of its new and old features in an incomplete state. It had nothing to set it apart from the current FPS king, COD. Also the fact that the gaming community of today demands more and is unwilling to wait years to get it. So much was placed on Halo 4’s shoulders (too much if you ask me) that it crumbled.
Thats why you cant compare the three games. I personally have not played Halo 4 in months. It doesnt engage me like the other titles did. The maps are poor and none of the features work right. A Halo game isnt about perks and add-ons. Its about the core gameplay. Any new features should only enhance the core gameplay, not overshadow it and bog it down.
I think that halo 4 has everything it needs… The return of master chief, an episodic mission set that keeps people playing (Spartan ops) and some really varied multiplayer. A lot of people may complain about the custom loadouts but most players use faster reload and infinite sprint over everything else in the first place. And if you like the more classic style of gameplay where everyone has the same gun and two frag grenades then that is where the beauty of the Team Throwdown playlist is! I personally like the changes to halo, it brings a new feel while also keeping some of the old feel with certain playlists.
