Is there any good way to get used to controls

when I got mcc a few months ago I have been playing that and I got used to mcc’s recon controls, but I go back to play halo 5 with friends and i am not used to the controls at all, id witch it to recon but I already have muscle memory to halo 5 so it doesn’t work, and it’s like I am playing half mcc controls, half halo 5 controls, no matter what controller layout I put it on, if anyone has tips to get used to recon controls I would appreciate it

I tried adapting classic Halo’s controls to H5 when I first started playing and found those controls do not work well. Halo 5 plays totally different compared to previous titles. I have found the best controller settings are the ones that resemble the controls in CoD. So rather than associating any controls from classic Halo with H5, associate whatever controls you use for CoD with H5. If you don’t play CoD or don’t like the idea of any sort of association, treat H5 like its own game and pick the controls independent of whatever you are used to for classic Halo. That’s when I found I was able to get used to the game best. H5’s gameplay folks did a lot of research when designing the default controls, so there’s definitely a good reason why the defaults themselves are so different compared to previous layouts. Note that I’m not knocking H5’s gameplay for resembling CoD, but only trying to give some pointers for picking the best controls.

I had the same problem, I tried to find another configuration similar to MCC but I didnt found one that were exactly like I wanted, so I choose IIRC the fishtick but I wanted to aim with LT, so I changed the configuration in the xbox to change the LT for RS, and worked well for me.

I would consider the Halo 5 controls to be pretty similar to the controls seen in the other Halo games and many other FPS games in general. Due to this, I haven’t really encountered any major issues switching between the different Halo games.

When it comes to control configurations, I do usually go with the default settings. In MCC, it’s the game specific default for each individual game (not universal default).

In the past I have stuck to the default controls for pretty much every single game. When the XB1 came out, I had recently sold my XB360 and moved across the country. I was away from Halo for 3 years. When I came back in 2018, I decided to switch to a common layout across the MCC and Halo 5. For me that layout was Bumper Jumper, as I bought into the advantage of being able to jump without removing your thumbs from the thumbsticks.

It might take some getting used to, but I would suggest trying one of the common layouts if you plan on playing both the MCC and H5.

I prefer to zoom in with the trigger because halo 5 was my first game, I suggest using universal reclaimer or universal zoom and shoot because a lot of other games use LT as zoom

I’m guessing you don’t have an elite controller? If not, I would recommend getting at least those packs that add two paddles to to the back of regular controllers. Halo 5 is a game in where I think you should never take your fingers off the joystick.

I use greenthumb, but have paddles so it’s a little different. I would recommend using a layout that has smartlink and zoom as two options instead of one. I usually snipe without a secondary zoom.

Just play a lot of halo 5. I used to play Halo reach BTB on MCC every day and Halo Reach infection, and I took a while to get used to the Halo 5 controls.

All you need to do is play games with quick reaction times like infection or swat and muscle memory will be built in around 3 weeks playing only on weekends.

Also, switch to recon controls on Halo 5. Only difference is that LB is thrust instead of switch
grenades. And d-pad left/right is switch grenades. Not much difference if you play on Elite controller.

Also, nice to know that somebody apart from me plays Recon controls.
