Is there any chance we can appeal the removal of Waypoint forums?

It really reflects the state of the video game industry over the last decade or so. It’s a product to push out the door, and nuanced criticism isn’t good for that. That’s only good for truly improving something. Saturation marketing is the real way to sell things these days.

Old waypoint had a selection of Halo-related avatars you could pick. Since the overhaul, it uses whatever picture you have on your Xbox account.

Sadly no.
This decision is likely final.
It is like asking EA to not switch off the servers to a low to no population game,
Someone likely looked at all the numbers - population of concurrent user’s vs server up time costs.
I’m even sure the value of the content that gets posted (mostly negative*) was even put into consideration.

*not to say all the user submitted content is negative but the negative outweighs the positive/constructive posts.

Ah, why did they have to change the avatar selection…? I miss my Halo 2 Sentinel Enforcer profile picture, haha.

I’m like 99% convinced they have no plans to add crosscore or listen to fan feedback anymore, so they want to delete the forums, to silence people from complaining and petitioning at all. 343 doesn’t really control Reddit or YouTube, but deleting the forums and banning complainers on Discord makes their life easier… It’s sad, because Halo has had forums for two decades. Some people just prefer forums, especially for questions and specific topics (Not that anybody bothers to search for topics before creating 9999 duplicate topics.)

What a bunch of crap. So now if I want to engage in formal discussion of the game, I have a use a damn 3rd-party app. Awesome. Yet another big-brain move from 343.

Censorship on anything that could be considered political or divisive, sure, but what does censorship have to do with topics like player collision? I can go around shouting that the pricing on shop items suck and even go so far as to say why and I don’t get censored for it
(And it’s not like reddit is known for it’s well loved and unbiased administrators)

The “new places” quite frankly, suck, just from the foundations, they aren’t designed to be as clean and straightforward as the forums, even places like discord that implement “forum features” are just doing what Waypoint has been doing from the start.

There’s a reason we prefer waypoint over the other places.

I’m in the middle of setting up a ‘place to go’ if people are interested. Yes it’s new but ultimately once Waypoint shuts its forums people will have to migrate over somewhere if they want a Halo forum. You gotta give new places a chance to grow otherwise nothing will progress.

Cool to hear. I will check it out once you are done.

The problem with splitting the fanbase like this is it just leads to further ‘echo chambers’.

Like making a new forum is good and all, but odds are it’ll probably just fill up with those who love 343 or those who dislike 343.

An official forum is a true invite to all parties.

And that’s why they don’t want one. 343 has shown its true colors over the last decade.

I offered to pay for a stat transfer, lol.
If they are so short sighted and cheap to remove basic forums, imo theres no point asking.
Its not like anybody from 343 posts here. Its free to fluff tweet or randomly respond on some forum somewhere.
It takes only a few seconds, and there’s no accountability

Pretty safe to say the appeal has fallen on deaf ears.

I will be giving Discord a go and if that doesn’t work for me then I’ll just give go back to checking Reddit for news updates.
