Is there actually matchmaking in halo 5?

So playing with a friend, he’s a 146, I’m 147, jump into a BTB. It’s CTF on I don’t know the name of the map, they added it recently and it’s got like a lot of trees and scorpions, sniper and wasps at the bases. Anyways, so predicting I’m playing with midly competent people, I run up for the sniper and if someone grabs that take the wasp and if both of those are gone take the ghost. Go up there, grab the sniper, and no one grabs the wasp. So I’m like oh I’ll go get it, drop the sniper and go to get the wasp and their wasp kills me. Whatever right, minor mistake on our team not knowing where stuff is. Then their team rushes and just starts to melt us, they’re all over out base. Long story short we get 3-0 in like 5 minutes. Look at the levels of my team:
Me, 147
My friend, 146
The randoms:
Lvl 4
Lvl 2
Lvl 2
Lvl 5
Lvl 7
Lvl 3

Didn’t know I’d be babysitting. Like if someone had never played that map, it’s different to these players who probably didn’t have a very good understanding of how the game works. And I’m not hating on them at all. It’s just that like come on 343, sure give us some new players, but also give us a couple competent players.

This also happened the next game where we played grifball, teammates were both below lvl 10, mind you the lvl 8 got a naire so idk. It’s also easier to do a 2v4 over the 2v8 we had in BTB.

I have no idea how this equates to “No matchmaking,” but it was literally just Christmas, of course there is a lot of new players.

Then why not just put all the Christmas players together. Dont make 2 people have to carry a team.

No matchmaking because how is this fair? I know there’s lots of new players because of Christmas, but like stuffing them all on one team? They’re just gonna get run over and not enjoy their time

Social playlists do have matchmaking parameters, but skill and experience are less of a priority in them than in ranked. A long time ago, 343i said they were toning down SBMM in social playlists to promote a more social experience.
I, for one, don’t consider getting pubstomped one game and then pubstomping the next to be what defines “social” gaming. I would like SBMM to be a priority even in social gamemodes. Because for me, what makes a game social isn’t disparity between player skill, but instead a mentality of not worrying about ranks or stats. I can have the thrill of a close match without kicking myself for losing after. But there is no thrill in a game where you are either vastly over or under the opposition’s skill level. At those points, it’s just like “oh, another kill/death, only X amount of them left to go”.
Long story short, I’m in agreement, OP.

just saying, spartan level has nothing to do with matchmaking, only CSR/rank does. And if your in social then those play even less of a role (though there is still some influence)

It’s probably 343’s ingenious 50% W/L algorithm… /sarcasm

You’ve been winning too much, so the MM system sets you up to fail for a few games… Sounds like a borderline conspiracy theory, but when you look at how lop-sided some of the matches turn out, some of the misfortunes you experience in particular games, the spawn system, mis-matched ranks, win streaks regularly followed closely by losing streaks, it really makes you wonder!

To be fair, we don’t know exactly what are all the parameters that go into matchmaking. Spartan Rank may very well be a determining factor, just lower priority than other things. But we will never know for sure either way unless 343i publishes the matchmaking algorithm or someone somehow datamines it.

every time i see a low rank i check to see if they are a smurf

You’re playing a social playlist for a start and yeah, Christmas noobs. Blame Jesus.

I did wonder how after almost 3,000 games I only have like ten more losses than wins…

I always search focused as well. But those search preferences were flawed from the time they added them… They do very little if anything…

Zippy.

Your first mistake was dropping the sniper, why would you drop such a powerful weapon?

Then there’s the question - why didn’t you tell one of your teammates to go for the Wasp?

Lastly, it’s the time of year for new players. But BTB is social, so why are you worrying about it?

For the record, I’m level 150 but rarely play BTB. So I wouldn’t be much better than the noobs if I played that map, and would definitely appreciate it if someone told me where a Wasp is.

You’re first problem was complaining about matchmaking on a social playlist match, but other than that, yes the matchmaking has always been crap.

Most players under 20 I came across are just other accounts from high skilled players. One game a Spartan level 2 in slayer went 35 and 2.
Other games I have groups of them all bunched up wrecking all game.
I even made a post about the team that was ninja assinating everyone. I believe they had 30 assisination as a team.
Games where all players had kd over 10… all players under level 20.

more kills for you
