Typically when I’m playing Halo (unless with friends) I’d rather do it alone – mainly because with randoms the experience is almost always bad. When Halo 5 first came out, I remember I always had to mute the voices after the game loaded (of course that meant I often had to put up with people screaming for whatever reason until it did start), but now days there’s a press R3 to mute option. The thing is, this almost never works for me, and most of the time causes the game to glitch. If I press it before a match loads, the ability to mute voices completely stops, and sometimes when I try to wait for after the match to load the same thing will happen. Most of the time it isn’t too much of a problem (considering not many speak), but when you have matches like I just had a few minutes ago – the reason I’m making this topic – it IS bad. For the full almost 30 minutes the match lasted, the guy yelled non stop in some other language, screamed the N word every time he shot at someone, and then would sing some song randomly. He never stopped doing this, no one ever said anything back to him, and I was completely unable to mute him without turning the game’s sound off which put me at a disadvantage. Every time I would listen again, it would be him doing the exact same thing…
So my question is, is there some setting I’m missing? Is there a way to fully turn off voice chat so that I don’t have to worry about this glitch? Or is it something I’ll just have to keep dealing with?
Thanks,
Yeah plug in your mic and dont have it on
Before the game starts when you see all the emblems listed, down at the bottom you should see a symbol, with RS and the words Mute , if you push down on the Right stick it will mute everyone. If it is during a game you can hold the button that shows the score and it says press X to mute all. Hope this helps.
The “mute all” function has always been buggy, even before they added the RS option in the pre-game lobby. Also just the standard in-game “mute” function. It only seems to work half the time.
The best solution is to just open up a party chat with yourself.

That’s kinda stupid when you could just open up a party chat…
just an idea, but playing with randoms is almost always terrible because there is a lack of communication which is a result of people muting everyone.
anyone thats not the discussion topic, I have yet to experience the mute not working and I am not 100% sure there is a setting option, you could always look in the audio section and see if their is a chat option. People like you describe are annoying for sure but they happen.
Thing is, the not plugging in the mic option wouldn’t quite work for me. I prefer to use headphones rather than my sound bar, but even then it would be a bit odd to just have the mic plugged in and just sitting there. As for the party option… Yeah I guess I could go that route. It’s what I tend to do on PSN when games don’t have an easy way to switch, but for whatever reason I never thought of it on the XBO. Also, it is true that lack of communication can be pretty bad, I agree, but at the same time it isn’t always needed in every mode. Most of the time I come across people who work well without communicating. Even in games that require much more coordination than Halo (such as G rank in Monster Hunter) I tend to either play with friends or find groups that are able to seemingly read each other’s mind to do what’s best for the team. But yeah, if you run into a group that can’t do that… It is pretty bad…
But anyway, thanks for the advice. I’m hoping that one day they either fix this, or give us another turn off option. I mean, I did look through the options, but from what I can tell there isn’t anything there. In the MCC there is, sure, but it doesn’t look like there is one in Halo 5…
Put your fingers in your ears and hum really loud and the voices will eventually leave you alone.
