Is there a technical limitation on # of playlists?

I know that 343 wants to be careful and not spread the populationtoo thin across playlists, but is the a technical reason they don’t have social, doubles, snipers etc?

I think there would be more work analyzing the data to optimize each list, but I really want 4v4 social and snipers.

Any information would be great! Thanks!

Maybe, but previous Halo games had tons of options so they are nowhere close to that limit.

It has nothing to do with limits. It’s 1 of 3 things.

  1. They were just to lazy to get things done.
  2. They didn’t have enough time because -Yoink!- wanted it rushed out.

Or my opinion

  1. They decided to hold them back (even the weekend playlists) so they would not have to come up with them for future “Free DLC”. Why have to work hard when you already have it made and can trickle it out to keep the mindless masses happy.

This. It’s a marketing/production decision to keep players engaged for longer, while saving money post-release.

There is no limitation on playlists, playlists simply match players with other players in that playlist then loads out of a set list of gametypes, all playlists run on the same servers and are pretty much unlimited

It has nothing to do with either of these 3 super biased options…

The low number of playlists at launch is to combat the failure of the MCC launch. There were many playlists when MCC launched and finding games was impossible. To ensure that players could easily find matches they limited the number of playlists available at launch.

There is no technical limitation to the number of playlists available. They could add as many as they wanted now with probably little effort.

The limitation is that they want to provide the best experience for the player and adding a multitude of playlists at once will effect search times and recurring opponents in every playlist. Its the pigeonhole principle at work.

You are confusing playlists with gametypes

4 (and this is only predicated on the fact that I’ve seen several post of people crying how the halo community has dwindled and if it has…) They don’t want to spread the playlists to thin causing increased time to fill a roster for less popular playlists.

It’s to keep people coming back, hopefully February adds something else. Social, a Solo Queue, and something. I can’t believe grifball is before infection.

Thank you for all your replies. It seems like the population spread is what they are worried about then.
