I’m not saying Halo 5 needs it but I am saying it certainly couldn’t hurt the game. I could understand why going forward could cause some issues but whats wrong with moving backwards? There are some odd unknowns in Halo 5’s story that could easily be warped up with a prequel DLC. The best I can think of is one based on The Arbiter.
Mostly because he could easily to make ties with the start of Halo 5G and plug up alot of the holes. One of the biggest holes is how Lasky was told not to intervene in the Sangheil Civil War yet killed Jul Mdama one of the main Antagonists of the war. For those of you who don’t know what’s like America not getting involved in WW2 then killing Mussolini. (yes I know that didn’t happen but it’s just an example.) There could be something talking about how he pulled a few strings to allow Lasky’s people to move in on Jul and get Halsey.
An Arbiter DLC would also introduce new fans to him while reintroducing him to the old fans but we certainly aren’t limited to just that idea. There could even be a story based DLC from the perspective of Crimson of Majestic, showing why they we’re able to assist during this crisis or a DLC explaining where the Infinity was during all of this. There are many doors open for this kind of story but I guess it’d be cheaper to not make it in the game which is sad to think of.
Dozens of ideas I’m sure have passed over the minds of 343i employee’s so I don’t think it’s a lack of context or anything. So is there a clear reason why we’ve never gotten a story based DLC? I know H3 ODST was meant to be story based expansion but nothing really seems to stop us now form having a true expansion to the game…that I know of.

Also it costs way more money than making redundant REQs. I am sure they wouldn’t do that due to financial problem they have, which made them to make REQ system.
because Halo Wars 2 is the focus from a story perspective, its not really worth it for halo 5 and it would divert writers from future projects, and we need them to have their good writers on stuff like Halo Wars 2 and Halo 6, we cannot efford them to have bad writers like he who shall not be named to be lead writer for a main halo game
Personally I think it’s because they can’t make money off of it. I mean technically they could make you pay something for dlc, but they are doing the whole free update model, which is powered by the req system. While I agree that it would be awesome for story dlc, I don’t think it’ll happen. Halo 5 is very competitive oriented, and focuses on PVP. There are a lot of developers that are doing this lately; just look at Titanfall, Battlefield or Overwatch, they don’t even have a dedicated campaign.
I hope that the market will turn away from this, but it doesn’t look promising.
the thing is story related content is relient on writers, sometimes they won’t be available or they leave and then they have to make due with whatever writers they have left at the time, which is why i believe B.R was even made a Head writer, because after Chris Schlerf left, he must’ve been their last option for head writer at the time and they had no choice otherwise halo 5 would need to be pushed back which microsoft would never allow.
They most likely won’t have any story-related dlc because of the reasons mentioned above. But if they do, a story from the Arbiter’s perspective could be tied into an update with playable Elites as one of the headlines
