I was just thinking about BTB or the lack of and I realised that no map in this game is suitable. Every map in Arena is designed for 4v4 combat, no way can 8v8 (or even 12v12) work.
Now that leaves the Warzone maps of course. Now these maps are big BUT can they work? They are not symmetrical, do not have two main bases for the teams (CTF and Bomb game modes), no vehicle placements and in the case of Apex 7 whoever gets Spire side will get a huge advantage.
I know BTB maps do not need to be symmetrical but they do need to have a main base for each side like 90% of previous BTB maps in every Halo game. (There have been exceptions in the past of course e.g Sandtrap) I am mainly referring to maps like Valhalla, Avalanche, Blood Gultch etc etc. Those 3 maps I named are some classic examples of BTB maps, attack and defend points, set vehicle spawns, room for flying vehicles, hidden routes and -Yoink!- grav lifts.
So there is the option of 343 splitting the Warzone maps into sections but due to the design of the maps there would be no space for vehicle combat, bases, objectives and frankly it would be lazy imo. I know map packs are on the horizon but will they be Arena orientated?
Warzone is fun, I like it more than I thought I would but it isn’t BTB as we all love. I have no doubt 343 will give us BTB but I bet they are enjoying the income of REQ packs. They will not want this income to slow down any time soon.
Forge is coming and I guess with that comes Forge created maps which can easily fill in some BTB maps but I have never liked to play Forge maps in MM, I prefer an actual map built from the ground up with its own style. I am really struggling to see where BTB fits into 343’s plans. I feel as though the Forge update will favour Action Sack and Infection more than our beloved BTB.
