Is there a penalty for betraying?

I’m not talking about betrayal booting, so let’s take that can of worms and put it back up on the shelf for another thread. I was specifically playing Grifball. Now for obvious reasons, booting does not exist in that gametype and shouldn’t. With eight people swinging Grav Hammers and lunging with Energy Swords, accidents will occur and that’s just part of the gametype. Accidents, plural, as in two or three times a game.

But the last match I played, and I’m not sure this is actually much of an exaggeration, I was killed more by my own team than the other. I’m not talking griefers here, just guys who were too hard up for a kill to worry about me being between them and the Blue player; too excited at the chance of a carrier kill to care that I was closer and more likely to get the kill. When I looked at the end of the match, I’d died 38ish times (mostly by their hammers) and they all had kill counts in the high 40’s or 50’s. Does it no longer subtract one kill when you betray? For that matter, because I’m not even sure, are those times they accidentally killed me counting as my deaths? If so, it seems unfair that you can blindly swing the hammer, kill your teammates and the only thing punished is the K/D ratio of the one who died.

Ya I’ve been having this problem too. I played a match the other day and accidentally betrayed my teammate twice. He took it too seriously and just focused on betraying me for the rest of the game! I know betrayals are part of grifball… But your example and mine show that it’s sometimes a big issue.

Is there any text on how this works in h4? I’ve been wondering about this for a while myself…

I kind of have to lean towards there being absolutely no incentive, other than the damage to your team’s attack, against doing so. We’re all familiar with the change to a points system in H4, though I still have no clue what that means with regard to translating to XP or how exactly they tally towards wins in Slayer gametypes. I just know I see a +10 when I get a kill. If something were taken away from me for a betrayal, you’d think I’d see a red -10 pop up, but I never have.
