In Arena…from the loadout weapons to the power weapons to everything in-between…every weapon has a purpose. Every weapon has a learning curve. The skill gap is large. It’s not uncommon for 4 teammates to all run for a different weapon depending on their play style and map.
There isn’t a game that comes to mind that equals what Halo 5 accomplishes here. I hear all the complaints and many are valid. The reason why 343 needs to continue to improve this game and maintain a strong community isn’t because this is a Halo game. It’s because Halo 5’s Arena multiplayer has a chance to go down as an all time classic due to it’s weapons balancing. It would be a significant missed opportunity if gaming history doesn’t recognize Halo 5’s multiplayer as one of the best ever on consoles due to other issues.

yeah halo 5 is great but there are a lot of issues. anyway this thread has been made like 5000 times already
Depends. Halo’s weapons to me were always balanced. The games revolved around mastering your utility weapon(CE Magnum, Hit scan BR H2, Projectile BR H3, DMR HR) with every other weapon filling a very specific roll, for very specific situations.
Automatics (CE AR, H2 SMG, H3 AR, HR AR)were designed to be easy to use and good at cleaning up kills, but never intended to be accurate or effective entirely on their own.
Plasma based weapons were designed to be amazing at stripping shields, and typically shoot straighter than Human automatics, but we’re purposely designed to be trash at getting kills by themselves.
My problem with H5’s weapons is that average TtK is too close to the potential TtK. There’s simply not enough of a gap between how fast a Pistol can kill with perfect headshots, versus pretty much most of the sandbox. (not to mention the overlap between the Pistol, BR and DMR). The battles are no longer determined by easy to see yards, but difficult to determine inches, where a harder to use weapon can only kill slightly faster than an easier to use weapons like H5’s automatics.
Halo 5 is the first Halo game where every single weapon has a legitimate use in some situations. I think this is awesome. Some players don’t.
Some players think the “uber skillz weaponz” like the BR should beat the “faceroll no skiilz weaponz” like the AR in every single situation, which personally I think is stupid. An SMG is designed for close range combat…it makes no sense that a BR would somehow beat it after you’ve emptied 50 bullets from the SMG into them.
These people all seem to forget to mention that maintaining that ideal distance with good situational awareness is a large portion of the skill in Halo. If you physically run into a player with a shotgun or SMG when you’re wielding the DMR you deserve to die.

How was the Halo: CE sandbox balanced? The pistol was so overpowered it effectively negated every other weapon with a few slight exceptions, like someone point blank with the shotgun. You could literally fight off someone with a sniper rifle all the way across Blood Gulch with the pistol…

The reason I am so addicted to h5 is because the weapon balancing is the most perfect I think it’s ever been out of any halo game to date.
Not only does every gun have a purpose, but almost none of them feel like they’re overlapped by another weapon. In halo 4, the only difference between the suppressor, storm rifle, and AR were slightly different rates of fire, and slightly different ranges (generally). In h5, every one has a very distinct and unique feel.
If the campaign had been better, this would definitely be the best halo to release yet.

Blops3’s weapon balance is actually very impressive. For the first time, the Cod community can’t seem to decide what the best guns are now. Hell, I can’t even decide, and I’ve been playing for months. Typically in the past, a top 3 list would of already have been established. Not this time.
No Halo 5 easily has the better weapon balance out of any FPS out right now. Each gun has it’s strengths and weaknesses but they are not outright useless like in past Halo’s.

I’m sorry but no. There have been individual posts commending the weapon balance in the game but very VERY few threads commending the game for its superior balance compared to others. Just another example of how the halo waypoint community is willing to complain so much yet appreciate so little. “Yeah we all know the game is crazy well balanced, but the more important issue is complaining about lack of infection.” Yeah cause that happens.

> Balance isn’t making every weapon identically versatile. It’s making sure no weapon is completely without use.
Every past halo game has had completely useless, or incredibly OP weapons except this one. Halo 2 had dual needlers, which were OP. Dual wielding in Halo 3 made all of those weapons useless on their own. Halo Reach had several weapons which didn’t seem particularly useful, the grenade launcher is the one I never took a fancy to. Halo 4 had an OP binary Rifle. There are plenty more examples that I could list in those games. And balance means that weapons have legitimate uses that occur in gameplay, not like the bloodshot in Halo 4 which was only useful in the charge function, which had a shorter range than the shotgun. Halo 5’s weapons all can be used in a a variety of situations. It is by far the best balanced Halo
For it simulates real life combat. You know that .50 cal up on the hill a kilometer out. Better hope it doesn’t spot you for it will reach you and kill you with 1 hit. For .50 cals kill anyone with 1 hit
