Is the weapons sandbox balanced?

Just Updated: Big thanks to ZaDarkTide, who was at PAX and was able confirm my hopes. When asked about whether or not the BR was harder to aim at close range, he had this to say- “Harder but in general not that difficult. You will lose to an AR 90% of the time at very close range, but just due to being slower rate of fire rather than weaker overall”

I would also like to thank all of you that thought I was a complete idiot when I said this is how it should be.

Using the same weapon for all situations is boring and repetitive. Making the AR/SR/Suppressor useful at close-mid range keeps it fresh by forcing the player to use the appropriate weapon for the appropriate situation.

I want to see some AR, Storm Rifle, and Suppressor gameplay so I know whether or not they will be useless.

If 343i did their job right, the AR/SR/Suppressor will beat a BR/DMR/LR/Carbine at close range and have a 50/50 shot at beating them at mid range.

What do you think? Do you think the AR is for “noobs” or do you think that every weapon in the sandbox should be useful and balanced according to range?

TO ALL OF YOU THAT THINK THE AR/SR/SUPPRESSOR SHOULD BE NOTHING BUT NOVELTIES: The fact is that they DID include the AR and they DID add new weapons similiar to it in Halo 4. So, if 343i is rational and logical (unlike some of you) they will make them useful. Otherwise they shouldnt have put them in the game to begin with.

Every weapon should be relatively effective and precision weapons should not dominate.

It was a btb map, u would be dumb not to use them on a map like this.

> It was a btb map, u would be dumb not to use them on a map like this.

What? I said at close-mid range, not at long range.

I think that the amount of skill a weapon takes to use should be proportionate to its optimum kill time, aside from power weapons. Automatics take less skill to use than precision weapons so automatics should have a longer kill time than precision weapons.

This map was 90% long range

No, at CLOSE RANGE the AR should DESTROY a precision weapon and at MID RANGE they should have an equal chance.

At LONG RANGE a precision weapon should DESTROY an AR.

Its funny how you say precision weapons take more skill to use yet I can get kills a lot easier with a DMR or BR than I can with an AR

You dont even uderstand what I am talking about do you?

Do you think automatic weapons require more skill to use effectively than precision weapons?

> Every weapon should be relatively effective and precision weapons should not dominate.

I agree, but it doesn’t really bother me much.

> Do you think automatic weapons require more skill to use effectively than precision weapons?

Yes, very much so considering how easy it is for me to get kills with the BR and DMR and how difficult it is to get kills with the AR EVEN AT CLOSE RANGE.

Aaaaaand I’m done here.

This is why Reach is so frustrating to me. Halo 3 was bad enough. Things need to go back to the CE days when the AR was an actual weapon and not just a novelty.

To be perfectly honest, no. I like the idea of certain guns performing different roles and all, but one of the bulletins in the past flat out showed weapon power balancing. That is all I need to know all weapons are balanced to work well with each other. Can’t aim for a 5 headshot kill? Use something else, which is possible to not only counter, but beat the gun out in certain situations.

So no. The guns are fine as is.

Thats what I thought. You seem to think that using precision weapons takes so much skill when they are actually too easy to get kills with. You say the AR takes no skill yet it is one of the hardest weapons to get a kill with.

Seems to me that you are a very narrow minded individual

> Do you think automatic weapons require more skill to use effectively than precision weapons?

At longer ranges? Absolutely.

I usually used the BR in H3 but the DMR in reach is terribru so I would choose the AR over it almost any day. I think there needs to be some sort of balance.

(Death to the DMR! BR domination!)

You asked for more AR/storm riffle gameplay, we recently got a lot of exile gameplay which is BTB so it would be dumb if you saw someone using it.

Yeah, if they used it at long range it would be dumb. But I am talking about at CLOSE TO MID RANGE ENCOUNTERS.

Easier weapons should be weaker and more skillful weapons should be stronger.
Asking for stupidly easy weapons like the AR to be just as powerful is a terrible idea (except for perhaps a niche range).
