I don’t care much for him or any combat we had for him. Just want an explanation. I don’t want him to suddenly just disappear in Infinite.
In my theory, I hope he is able to see the corruption in Cortana and betrays sides probably near the end of the story. Then he controls and protects the Mantel for good or just destroys it.
Not dead, remember, Cortana mentioned that he has a single mind but a few million bodies. She just locked him outside of the Cryptum she was planning on trapping Blue Team inside of. We only destroyed about 6 or 7 or so of his bodies. He’ll most likely be back. Unless they decide to do to him what they did with Jul M’Dama which was super disappointing in my opinion. We spent a whole Spartan Ops trying to catch that -Yoink!- only for Locke to just run at him and Jul didn’t even put up a fight…
This is tricky. You could just say, he has a million bodies and he’s not going anywhere. Or he could just go away and retake the Domain and continue to be the protector of it. Honestly, whatever 343 does with Cortana will decide the fate of Warden Eternal. Being Infinite is quoted as being a “spiritual reboot” of the series, it brings up the question of how far will 343 go to continue 4/5 story or back track from it while keeping it lore.
Also this quote from Warden
“The Mantle of Responsibility belongs to Cortana and the other Created. I shall see that it remains forever beyond your grasp.”
— The Warden Eternal
It’s sad that the Warden wasn’t a cooler character. There was a lot of potential for him to have been way more interesting, but he was just so bland… So I really wouldn’t mind him being in Infinite if his character is fleshed out more. Perhaps some terminals with backstory or even some exposition from the Warden that explains his motivations rather than just him being a cardboard cut out that you have to shoot at because he’s arbitrarily standing in your way.
As far as the Mantle goes, it’s not really an object that can be sequestered or destroyed. It’s more of a philosophy that dictates somebody is responsible for all life in the galaxy. That somebody appears to be the main concern of the Warden, and at this point he appears to have decided that humanity is not that somebody, which has the potential to make him a very interesting enemy if done right.
He is not dead. Cortana simply banished his presence from the Cryptum room in Halo 5. In fact, the day after Cortana sent out her Guardians to police the galaxy, the Warden attacked a UNSC ship (we learn this in Halo: Fractures).

I hope he doesn’t get the same treatment as the Didact; where his story continues in the comics.
