Is the TU actually going to save Halo 4?

After playing some old halo for a few days now, I went back to Halo 4 to see why I left for a while. Halo 4 isn’t that bad, and because Halo 3 has 11k population I’m pretty much stuck playing this game. Now I know we have a giant TU coming in January, but I was wondering would it actually fix Halo 4? They would need to rebalance all the unbalanced weapons, fix vehicle combat (too vulnerable to loadouts), tone down magnetism, add smaller 4v4 maps (Harvest is not a Small-Medium map 343!) and this is just the competitive side of Halo 4. As for casual gaming with friends, custom games would need a massive TU as well. We would need gametypes like Race, Classic Infection, Juggernaut, Assault etc. So with all the problems needing fixing would one Title Update fix the problems? Chances are, it will not. Not to mention 343 is now hiring a new Multiplayer designer, which could mean two things.

  1. The new designer has just hopped into a fairly mixed up game, has no idea what to do and makes things even worse.

  2. The new designer is actually a professional and fixes this game up so that Halo might be less of a hybird.

I really hope it is the latter, because one TU won’t do, and with future TUs we would need a great designer. I want to enjoy Halo 4, really I do. But we need so many fixes it seems damn near impossible for this game to reach it’s potential. I also want to know what everyone else thinks, will the new years update fix Halo ? Could we have another Halo 2 on our hands? That game had so many bugs and glitches pre TU, it even had a website dedicated to hating on it. It may be overly optimistic to assume Halo 4 could be with the greats, but it doesn’t hurt to hope for it.

Thanks for reading, as always I love to read all the replies you may have.

The biggest problems are not fixable without a complete overhaul. They never should have added loadouts and killstreaks to Halo. Completely ruins the game.

^^^ I’ve always wondered if you could remove loadouts from this game? Is that possible with a TU?

Its fairly easy to do or you could just have a standard loadout that is the only choice but that of course wont happen and im not sure it should.

All they would really have to do is make new playlists that don’t have loadouts.

Well that being the case, I would want them to do that. 343 doesn’t actually care/listen to the community anyway. I f they would just swallow their pride, and admit their mistake I would respect them so much more.

Easiest solution is to have fixed loadouts for certain playlists rather than remove them altogether, there’s even a feature in the custom game options to restrict user created loadouts in favor of presets. Removing such a core feature would probably be a coding nightmare.

For example for standard FFA they could have a single loadout selectable, like AR/Magnums or whatever. They already do this with SWAT as far as I remember with the limited preset loadouts.

I hope it’s a coding nightmare because 343 frankly deserves it. I know that they won’t actually remove loadouts from the game entirely, but I do hope there are more playlists without them. 1-50 would help significantly as well because people that hit 130 are complaining that there is nothing to do already.

That’s awfully petty.

As for the “already 130” people, 343i and Mountain Dew obviously underestimated players and their lack of lives.

A TU could fix the weapon balance issues which would make the gameplay less unfair and frustrating. It could also add betrayals for Spartan Ops and the playlists that need it so teammates can’t constantly blow up your vehicle or run you over without actual consequences. It could also add in new playlists so players could actually have a decent amount of options instead of being stuck in BTB or SWAT all the time.

Fixing these problems wouldn’t completely fix the game, but it sure would go a long way in making it a hell of a lot better.

I have a full time job, and school, go to the gym every day, didnt use any dxp, got the game 2 weeks late and am already 130. don’t really need to no life it.

Dude you can earn 15k per match in spartans ops using double xp. It doesn’t take long to hit max. I’m at 97 right now and I had completely stopped playing for about 2 weeks last month.

I did say they underestimated players. And yes you can earn that much in Spartan Ops, if you like to grind Spartan Ops, and tolerate that unbearable lag/latency.

Speaking of which that is one particular issue that pisses me off to no end and 343 better be looking at ways to improve it. Even REACH of all things had better netcode for firefight. But I suppose it was easier for Firefight since there was a hell of a lot less scripting or whatever…

I’m hoping to see a Spartan Ops boot feature and an auto-kick for AFK.

Removal of friendly fire for vehicles would also be great.

People need to realise the job position for “multiplayer designer” isn’t new. It was put up ages ago.

As for the original topic, who can tell before it’s actually put to the test. I believe if they manage to work up a miracle by that time then it will put a lot of people at ease. Even if it’s just a start for future updates then it’ll stop a lot of the moaning. It’s a great game with flaws that can be easily ironed out by these big updates.

Nope.

This game needs to be saved?

The TU is rushed, it won’t be anything major
