If you watched the Gamescom invitational tournaments, the pros rarely swapped out their Magnums for BRs and DMRs, why is this? I couldn’t tell you personally, but what I think is that there not really a reason to pick up a BR if the pistol is that good.
Because despite what half this forum will tell you, you don’t have time to go finding BRs when you need to keep pressuring another team. They simply don’t have time to hunt for better weapons because if they did they’d probably all end up dead for their trouble.

Like I said in a different thread, the reason why they did not actively search for precision weapons on the map during gamescom is more than likely because they were told not to, or at the very least told not to as mucha s they normally would
343i undoubtably told them something along the lines of “focus on emphasising the Spartan abilities and increased mobility, and highlight the AR/Pistol”
When people found out that AR/Pistol starts were going to be the main starting basis for the game it split the community (again) so by having pro’s showcase how “balanced” AR/pistol starts are they hoped to bring the community back together and put the nay sayers at ease
Given the chance, they do take the other weapons. They’re now classed as power weapons anyway. If the pistol is too much, they will tone it down by the time the game is out, and it can always be balanced afterwards.

If anything if they are going to keep AR/Pistol starts the pistol needs to be buffed to a 4sk and have a 12 round clip (as others have said) could probably due with a slight RRR increase as well

100% baseless speculation on your part

Yea, no. It’s only what, 6 shots now? You can still shoot out 6 shots as quick as a BR shoots 4? Don’t do any buffing, it works just fine for it being a starting weapon, as much as I dislike the guy, Light Returns is right, they didn’t have time to go searching for another weapon, they had to keep the other team at bay, while at the same time dealing damage for their teammates. It’s not some conspiracy by 343i to put emphasis on the AR/PISTOL combo, it’s just how the game goes dude.
I saw players regularly walk over DMRs that were in their path and choose not to pick them up over the pistol. That concerns me… what, then, is the point of the DMR’s existence?

Agreed, just speculation because he probably doesn’t like the Pistol.

Has nothing to so with me not enjoying AR/Pistol starts, has everything to do with the business side of whats going on right now
They are showcasing their game, which is why they are having all these events at places like E3 and Gamescom, they want to show off their new additions to the franchise they want people to embrace the changes they’ve made
It wouldn;t be the first time, as someone pointed out in a different thread its quite common practice in the gaming industry to put what are essentially gag orders on negative reviews (obviously this is a just for instance and may not be the case here)
So it also stands to reason that they would have been asked not to focus on precision game play and focus instead on the things they are trying to push people into enjoying
whch are sparatn abilities this improved movement system and AR/pistol starts
However in reality, all of this is moot because when H5 events start literally every single game played with be No Radar BR starts
Anyway, I don’t know what the current kill times are but I think the pistol should kill faster than the BR or DMR but have a smaller magazine than it does now which would make it a high skill weapon.
I’m already pretty happy to see that the pistol is pretty good as it is. Very Halo CE.
I personally hope the pistol is better then BR/DMR in terms of range, accuracy, time to kill, BUT I hope that the aim assist and bullet magnetism is significantly lower. A weapon like that would not be leveraged by lesser skilled players, would be a viable weapon for average players but still commonly swapped out, and would be the workhorse benchmark high-skill-gap weapon for pros.

I’d be perfectly ok with this
The Pistol seems to have a faster killtime than either of those weapons by most accounts. Aside from 3 rounds in the magazine, .5x difference in magnification, and the marginally faster killtime the Pistol is a BR functionally speaking. The DMR had a clear advantage at range which is sensible. I can’t say I saw enough BR vs Pistol fights to conclusively say one way or the other, but they are already so similar it doesn’t seem to matter much.
Now while I can see the Pistol is by no means the throwaway it was in H2/3 nor does it have the spread/bloom and shallow magazine issues of the Reach Pistol, it remains to be seen whether it really is holding up that well or it is a matter of a lack of time to really learn Halo 5. Pro decisions are not 100% objective by any means, the Storm Rifle got completely ignored even though by most accounts it has nearly as fast a killtime as the SMG. The Plasma Caster was barely picked up seemingly as a result of it being unfamiliar and therefore less reliable pick when you have limited experience with the game and important matches on the line.
It does not mean those weapons are bad by any means, likewise it does not mean the weapons that did get used are necessarily that good either. Looking at Gamescom my instinct would be to buff the Pistol to a 4 shot based on the balance of the overall game not necessarily just the balance between weapons. When players would escape immediate depth it always seemed to be around the 5th shot. I do think that the Pistol needs to have a bit more of an ability to punish bad plays given the number of escape options between sprint and thrust.
That said I think its an exaggeration to say the Halo 5 Pistol was bad by any means and I think it would be just as much of an exaggeration to say it is fine as it is.
