I just recently decided to come back to Halo Reach after not playing it for quite a long time. I’m attempting to complete the campaign on Legendary by myself. So far progress has been pretty good. The one thing I notice though is that it seems the Marines were intentionally made to be complete and total people on Legendary at least. They will seriously just stand there as a Jackel or a Brute walks by and not do anything. The funny thing is though, the enemies also completely ignore the Marines as if they don’t even exist. And when I kill an enemy, a lot of times one of the Marines will stand there and shoot the dead corpse for awhile then keep on casually strolling ignoring everything else. This makes me wish so much that there was some kind of brothers-in-arms type of command system or something.
And another thing, the enemies seem to have a spidey-sense of where I am even when I use Active Camouflage.
It’s been a lot of fun and I forgot how much I love this game, but these kinds of moments make me shout at the screen in a rage fit. Haha.
Yeah, they’re not helpful. At all. They can serve as temporary distractions, but it doesn’t work all that well and they usually get killed pretty quickly.
> Thanks. I had completely forgotten to register my gamertag on here after all the data was transferred from Bungie.
Yeah, I was never all that active on Bungie, so this has pretty much been my Halo home! It’s got its few things that are bothersome, but it’s a pretty good place!
I would like a simple command set “Defend this spot” “Cover me” “Attack”.
My annoyance is on the ONI mission. there are always extra Marines around. Hop into a warthog and follow me! Instead they just hang out, only to be destroyed while you are off doing stuff. In 3, they weren’t the brightest, but they were engaged…
> It’s better to have the AIs do nothing than actually do something. Trust me.
Haha. Yea. I just think it’s odd playing with different versions of AI’s all at the same time. Ones smart, one isn’t. And when they try to fight each other, they are both idiots.

You’d think Bungie would have acknowledged this problem since CE but… they did acknowledge the problem at that time.
Capt. Keyes was roughhousing with his Needler on T&R so Bungie stopped him from shooting at Covies after they died.
But in Reach, troopers rarely help out and put in bullets into the enemies except when the enemies finally die (they do this all the time. Stand around doing nothing and when the Covie finally dies, they start shooting at him). But then they’re wasting their time. The worst part is that it can happen with friendly AI who have explosives/fire in bursts/have a delayed projectile. I’ve seen/heard/experienced being betrayed by Pelican turrets, Jun, Wraiths, rocket hog turret, and rocket launcher wielders.
Bungie should have realized from the beginning (CE) that giving friendly AI power weapons is going to end badly. CE marine snipers decimated areas, stealing kills and causing you to waste ammo, and in certain locations, would snipe their own teammate, possibly even you.
And what did Bungie do about this possibility? They gave marines rocket launchers and they made marines almost always worthless without power weapons. Marines were already doing well with their ARs. They just needed a little more firing range, a little more caution about firing so closely, and an accuracy and output boost.
Mission: The Package - Once you reach the part where noble team defends Dr. Halsey’s lab, noble six does all the work while noble team stands around at the door, doing nothing. Whatever happend to: Carter: “But we’re a team. That lone wolf stuff stays behind.” Regardless, you are going lone wolf for the majority of the campaign. I had almost no help from them during legendary
Were you playing on exodus? On the mission exodus, at the last part where you activate the two buttons the marines and covenant will not attack each other for some reason. Other than that, marines are pretty useless, don’t count on them to do much.

The AI really is just that dumb. The only thing Marines are good for is a couple minutes of distraction. If you start expecting them to kill anything or even do anything right, you’re gonna be very disappointed.
