Is the Limited Edition becoming devalued?

I am beginning to think I made the wrong choice in pre-ordering a copy of H4lo LE. I initially thought that the early access to all 8 specializations, 3 FUTURE map packs and a download code for Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn was worth the $100 asking price (even without the few other h4lo goodies included in the LE). However, after reading that anyone who purchases a copy of H4lo standard edition also gets access to the specializations if they play just 1 game of H4lo Wargames before November 20th 2012. (so basically everyone who buys a copy of Halo now gets access to all 8 specializations). Why the hell was this stated as a Limited Edition exclusive then! What kind of bull -Yoink- is this? Is Microsoft to blame or 343i? This is a really low blow to all of the fans who had faith in 343i and Halo 4 from day 1 and pre-ordered the LE. It seems to me that the LE is becoming more and more devalued as each day passes. Besides the 8 specializations being available to basically everyone now, I also read that the Wargames Map Pass will have two helmets and an in game emblem only available to those who get the $25 Map Pass. What a bunch of bull crap.

The past Halo Legendary Editions, Halo Limited Editions, and every other Halo edition all included something extremely awesome and exclusive to those that bought it, whether it be a replica of Master Chiefs Mjolnir Mark VI helmet from Halo 3 or the Halo Reach display of all the Noble team. Even Dr. Halsey’s journal was bad -Yoink- and exclusive. Now the Halo 4 Limited Edition is coming out but what exclusives are there for the true die hard Halo fans? That’s right, nothing. The 9 multiplayer maps will be available in a Map Pack Pass (although this doesn’t bother me as much since that has always been the case), the early access to the 8 specializations are now available to basically everyone (who on Earth isn’t going to play 1 game of Wargames before November 20th 2012? nobody that’s who), Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn will be available on DVD and Blu Ray shortly after launch, and the other stuff included in the Halo 4 Limited Edition is baby stuff compared to the past Halo “whatever” Editions.

I love what I have seen from 343i so far when it comes to Halo 4 but this is the one area they have really let me, a true and long term (got an Xbox and Halo CE day one) fan of the series down big time. Give the true fans of Halo something special if we show faith in you, 343i, by pre-ordering the Limited Edition with no prior knowledge of what you had planned for the Halo series after Bungie left!!!

I certainly think that it was devalued.

Shot answer, yes.

Long answer, definitely. Still buying it though, unless something happens that REALLY upsets me. Like a confirmation on whether or not Specs are going to be given to people who buy the Se.

It IS devalued

> this has been cleared up and you do get the exclusive helmets with the le map pass david ellis said it on twitter

It was devalued, definitely, but it is still worth it.

And for those who will undoubtedly come into this thread and call us stupid for saying it was devalued: Exclusivity has a price. Things are worth more because they are rare. We were paying for something extra, now everyone gets it for free.

There is an extremely simple answer to this issue. If you don’t like the LE don’t buy it.

Honestly I would buy LE if everywhere I look wasn’t sold out, Mainly for the FUD bonus disc and the shiny case and the little info one the infinity and the Spartan fours. But honestly I thought they were gonna release the LE stuff to every one else months later, I personally hate it when digital content is exclusive entirely to one package. There should have been better material bonuses like the Didact’s cryptum as a statue or a full sized BR replica. And maybe some sweet canon based stuff like Halsey’s journal.

Yes, the Limited Edition has certainly been devalued if you look at what it offers practically. However, as a collector’s item, I still feel it’s worth the purchase. I don’t plan on downgrading to Standard anytime soon.

@Closed Aperture - How is that a simple answer? I already stated that I had pre-ordered the game long before any of the so called “exclusives” to the game were then made available to everyone who buys a copy of Halo 4, whether it be the LE or SE. I pre-ordered Halo 4 LE with faith that 343i knows its fans and would have come up with something amazing for the Halo 4 LE. A simple answer for a simple mind I guess.

Well cancel your pre-order then. You seem to be implying that 343 are sonehow forcing you to buy the LE, when in fact it all comes down to you.

I repeat again, if you don’t like what you are getting with the LE then don’t buy it, end of discussion.

@SrSergeant 7ohn - thank you for clearing that up and posting the source. That makes things a little better but overall I was let down by the Halo 4 LE including no exclusive items.

@UNSC Chewy It has already been confirmed by Microsoft that anyone who purchases the Halo 4 Standard Edition and plays at least 1 game of Wargames before November 20th 2012 will also receive early access to all 8 Specializations. I will find the source article where I read this… give me a sec.

I tried to get the limited edition, despite the fact that the specializations are offered to everyone now on day 1. However I know where you’re coming from in that you were offered something exclusive and had that given to the general masses. Personally, don’t fret too too much on the in game exclusives, but enjoy the simple pleasures of a goody box of assorted halo related items

Knowing that this time around it is “Limited” makes me feel its more worth it

it is a collectors memorabilia that you will cherish for years to come…a start of something very special, as far as halo fans. its just something to have and yeah i was a bit upset about it but then i came to my senses and realized its worth the money. (atleast to me)

Idk look in the mirror and ask urself if its worth it to you.

i will buy it… when its cheaper on ebay

Not really, it seems more like a misunderstanding than anything else. The game ($60), the numbered limited metal case ($10), and the season pass ($25) and additional fiction stuff ($5).

That and the fact that it’s actually limited this time makes it worth every penny.

I do wish Recruit was exclusive to it yes, but at least we now have the same bonuses as the standard editions WGMP.

The case is what I love about the LE.

@Closed Aperture - Holy -Yoink- dude, how clear do I have to make myself? It has nothing to do with me buying or not buying the game. I have already PAID for the game and when I initially PAID for the Limited Edition compact game disc of Halo 4 one of the selling points was the early access to the 8 specializations being a Limited Edition exclusive. I am claiming false advertising here. It’s a bunch of bull -Yoink- that after the Limited Edition completely sold out in every store across the globe and Microsoft had made its money on those sales, they turn around and allow early access to the 8 specializations for the Halo 4 standard edition as well. Thus no longer making the early access to 8 specializations a limited edition exclusive. I don’t like being lied to, do you?
