Is the light rifle as bad as I think it is?

So I was all excited to unlock the LR because it was supposedly so powerful. Basically felt like I was using an inferior DMR. I thought I had my answer to the DMR on long range maps but I got destroyed and wound up back to my trusty BR and Carbine loadouts. Maybe I have to “get the hang of it”? As it looks now I wasted spartan points on a lame version of a weapon I could use from launch (DMR).

Help me out with your flamings and advice.

Takes more shots unzoomed, takes less shots zoomed. There you go.

I only played the campaign yet so my experience is derived from that.

I find the light rifle one of the best weapons in the game, when shooting normal its ok from up close but when zoomed in, its even more powerfull, long or shorter distances. In the beginning I found it underpowered but you need to get used to it I guess. Right now its my favorite weapon so far…

I’m the same way when it comes to scoped weapons the lightrifle just doesn’t do it I’d rather have the BR.

The DMR is way to powerful, and the LR works really well if you scope with it.

The LightRifle is fantastic scoped, and absolutely terrible unscoped. If you wanna play with it, stick with a teammate/mid-close range secondary and play a support role, because it’s very quick to drop shields on infantry on larger maps. Harder to aim due to less aim assist, but that just takes practice.

I played two games of Big Team with it, going -6ish in each with 10 assists or more because by comparison to the DMR it’s aim assist is way low, but that’s human error. At no point was I outshot from range, it was always being pushed on close range and feeling defenseless.

It really is something you just have to get used to. It shoots a little differently than the other rifles, as in it feels like the shot is almost “delayed” when shooting. It’s comparable to a BR with a slower rate of fire unscoped. Scoped is obviously where it shines and what you should be trying to utilize the most. Once you get to using it a lot, you get a feel for how much damage each of your scoped and unscoped shots are doing and you’re able to switch between them for extremely accurate and fast kills.

It’s definitely the most skill intensive rifle but it’s also really fun to use, but I may just be bias in saying that since I love it. Just give it a chance. I would argue it’s better than the BR once you get the hang of it. It isn’t for every map either though. It’s terrible on Abandon and inferior to the BR on Adrift. It’s my go-to on Solace and Complex. Haven is weird, sometimes I have great games with it and others it just does nothing for me

Sadly the DMR has no answer right now lol. It is amazing at all ranges except point blank.

Good advice. I hadn’t thought of mixing up scoped and unscoped zoom in that way. I’m gonna keep at it and hopefully sort out which maps it will best suit me.
