Is the Kodiak better than the Cobra?

I had a really hard time understanding how to use Cobras in Halo Wars. How is artillery in HW2? Is it a clunky mess? Is it crap like the Cobra?

P.S. anyone know how to utilize Cobras properly in HW? They are such a complicated unit to use…

I used them very frequently in the halo wars 2 beta. I play other rts games on console where artillery is used a lot more and I have to say I loved the Kodiak edition to the halo wars 2 game. I said often and loudly it was my favorite unit in the beta. But it’s a matter if opinion really. Kodiak ftw

Despite looking similar, the Cobra and the Kodiak are two separate units. The Cobra was a hard anti-vehicle counter that excelled in its role when it was in siege mode. It was not meant to be used against infantry and performed poorly against them.

The Kodiak functions very similarly in that it also has a siege mode that provides much longer range, but it counters infantry and not vehicles.

Both vehicles need to be set to siege mode to achieve their maximum effectiveness against their respective counters. Doing so greatly increases both of their max ranges. Both need a protective force in front to extend their sight-lines (they can shoot further than their Line-of-Sight) and act as a protective buffer. Both perform poorly at close range (When sieged, Cobra has a slow tracking speed, Kodiak simply can’t engage close units).

Cobras certainly weren’t crap.

In HW, I rather liked the cobra. I usually paired it with a couple of scorpions to handle infantry, and form a protective ‘wall’. If you come across enemy vehicles, deploy it and let the cobras tear them apart, while your other units keep the enemies away from the cobra.
Its great against bases, too, but you’ll have to defend them from enemy units. A key strategy is to keep your cobras as far away as possible, while still staying in range. Always pair it with other units, that can keep enemies in the edge of the cobra’s range, but it out of their range.

That is extremely difficult to do. I hated how Scorpions were much faster than Cobras. I think Cobras are the slowest units in HW. So much time is wasted in locking them down, path finding, and there is really no need for them. An army of tanks can easily wipe out a fully turret upgraded base. A lot of valuable time is wasted on moving them up. I would like to see a video of how they are used effectively.

I used cobras a lot, paired with some grizzly tanks and maybe a few wolverines to cover the air. You can really lock down parts of the map with them.

I play a lot of both games and doing comparisons I’d say cobra since looking at the abilities it’s performance is better.
Look at the big difference, cobra has better mobility, stronger anti-vehicle off lock-down and even has long range damage. In lock down both can do fairly well against infantry.
But kodiacs which I’d say a worse have good long rang but off of lock down it’s weak machine gun does about nothing and it’s mobility is extremely poor.
they are both good in certain situations but overall.

both can’t beat air units.

Cobras were super effective in the right situations. But yes, the Kodiak in Halo Wars 2 is awesome.
