The Gravity hammer has been in halo since… well technically halo 2, but it was first wielded by players in halo 3 (unless im wrong there) and ever since, it’s been a beloved beast of a weapon in the halo franchise because it can do one thing, really, really well: send everything in the radius of a grenade TO THE MOON. (yes, even your favorite cryptos.)
As I was watching one youtuber review the footage he brought up the fact that while the gravity hammer certainly has the WHAM of previous titles (honestly, even more potent if you ask me) it was kinda lacking on the “To the Moon” department, just kinda dropping players where they stood instead of sending them flying. do yall think this is just something unfinished, or do you think the devs intended for less ragdolling? should they change that some time down the line, or do you not mind the lack of ragdoll?
If you think about it “gravity” would bring you down. So when you strike someone with the gravity hammer it should almost stun you in place thus why it showed the player just falling down. Just a thought.

It seems like the hammer is the most powerful it has ever been. The only instance that I didn’t like was when the guy jumped from above and hit the player. This however can be justified if he hit the hitbox at the top and therefore would jam the play into the ground preventing any knockback.

Either they made a specific exception or this has been cut, as we see in the trailer a spartan jumps from above and uses the hammer, with no effect on his momentum.

Go watch the trailer again and keep track of whenever a player is killed by the gravity hammer. They have a particular death animation where they crumple to the ground, which doesn’t send them flying at all. Here’s some clips, note how the bodies always end up at most a few feet from where they were killed:
Contrast these with this clip from Reach where he slams a guy into the wall at Mach 10 (sorry for -Yoink- quality, first video I could find was from 2010)
And here is where the player swings the hammer with no momentum effect on themselves:

Seems like a design decision or something they have failed to fully implement. Honestly I never liked being effected by the hammer swings, but the player hit should be slightly more effected. It can always be changed.
I think it’s intentional but I hope they change it. H3 hammer is still my favourite because of that. It’s called a gravity hammer for a reason. Please 343i, let us send team rocket blasting off againnnnnn!

It might be a physics bug too. I imagine if we are rowdy enough they will lol.
It could just be for multiplayer balancing but in the campaign maybe it is like the hammer of old. But what I think and from what others in here have said is that every or almost every weapon in the game will have multiple variants and or attachments and maybe this variant of the hammer doesn’t have the anti gravity effects.
It actually looks too strong to be honest. None of the post-Halo 3 hammers have felt as good as the Halo 3 hammer despite being more powerful in terms raw damage
The AOE (gravity pulse?) should not be outright killing full health players. It should be used send players and vehicles flying around and potentially deflecting rockets and items. If you want to do damage it should require a direct hit with the actual hammer.
The physics of the Hammer is what made it fun to use in Halo 3 and I have not really got the same feeling from any other hammer since.

Man some of my favorite -Yoink- to do in Halo CE even was on the silent cartographer with my buddy getting both warthogs and playing chicken. Man when you hit that warthog just right it went flying!

Honestly, the gravity hammer not having much knockback on corpses could be a detail fixed during polishing. Like we saw the BR Reticle change between the gameplay, it’s clearly still being ironed out. I don’t think 343 would make the mistake of going against the main appeal of the gravity hammer, I mean c’mon it’s in the name lol.
I know it’s very late in the development, but it’s not like they sit on their hands for the last 4-5 months of development, that’s like prime polish phase, and while the physics of the gravity hammer is a huge part of it’s identity, it’s ultimately not a gigantic part of the overall sandbox, so I could see time spent on polishing that being pushed to late development.
