Major nelsons list of top 20 XBL games has Reach at 3
a drop from the usual 1 spot of past halos but still top 3 none the less (even getting number 2 in 2010 for the year only having been out for 4months in 2010)
by contrast crysis 2 has never even made it on the list since its release and a great game like BF:BC2 never cracked the top5
yet most would have you think the reach community is dead and a disgrace to halo
my question is, are people overreacting a little bit ? if halo isnt number 1 then its a failure ? thats not really fair to the market as a whole , it still dominates
almost any other developer would wish for their title to have “failed” the way Reach has
Thats one persons opinion, that has nothing to do with the entire community, I like the game, but its not like the halo I love, thats why I only like the game. sad face.
> Reach caused the competitive crowd to leave in disgust, but it didn’t ‘fail’, popularity wise. The gameplay is still trash though.
Not true at all, yes some aspects of it could be improved but overall it’s a very good game and really fun to play, you just have to look in the right places.
It is the general nature of people to complain. I’m not calling everyone a debbie downer, nor am I being pessimistic, but when something upsets you in life, you are more likely to talk about it than when something good happens.
We expect everything to please us correct? So imagine for a second that you go to Taco Bell 100 times. But one time out of that 100, there is a bug in your food. You will tell that bug story to all of your friends over any of the other 99 stories you may have about that location because it is different, unexpected.
I used to work in the wireless industry and we understood this very thing. You know those little surveys that people are asked to do? Well 97% of people who are happy/fine with their service usually have nothing to say. The last three percent are the people who are shocked, unexpectedly, either in a positive way or a negative. Unfortunately it’s usually the former that we heard from.
My point is that I don’t think people are over reacting, we are just hearing the few that have been moved enough to speak.

This, I enjoy Reach alot
the graphics are beast
the gameplay is smooth for the most part
the maps are fine
the playlists rock in my opioion
Of course the Halo community is overreacting. It’s what they do.
Countless threads about how Halo is “dying” and “pathetic” are completely unjustified and just make the user look like a simpleton.
I guess many of them are just clinging to the past… Of course Halo 2 was huge. It had literally 0 competition in online gaming. Of course Halo 3 was huge (Not as big as Reach, but huge nonetheless) and kept the top spot for quite some time. But still, it had little competition.
Now that Halo: Reach is out, the amount of online gamers has increased SUBSTANTIALLY. Like 4 times the amount. And guess what? Many of these gamers have different tastes.
It’s a great time to be a gamer. We have countless amounts of blockbuster hits to entertain us. I freaking love it. I have dozens of games I want to get my hands on. It’s gotten so great that I actually HAVE to plan my time around certain games.
Sadly the Halo community sees the industry’s massive growth and variety as meaning Halo: Reach somehow sucks… I’m sorry guys, I love Halo as much as the next guy, but it’s reign at the top spot is over. Gaming is evolving and changing with the times.
i see it as, halo gamers are use to number 1, we like the number, we like the attention, we like the bragging rights, but i see people who say halo reach is a failure are correct in their own little way, i see it as *hey after 8 years of halo gaming the community is up and running and we are number 1. ooh look a new halo game, this must top all the other halo games and make mlg so much more fun!, oh wait a second, these graphics are amazing but why aren’t my bullets hitting the enemy!? why is it that im pacing my shots yet the spammers keep killing me!?!? why did bungie let me down!?!?!?!?!?! * that is how i see it
Edit note: funny how i really care less bout mlg and i can write from one’s point of view

We are hearing the few that realises that Reach isn’t Halo.
To me Reach wasn’t the greatest Halo, but it was still really good.
I think some people are over reacting.
From what I heard from Bungie Mods, every other Halo title received just as much hate.
Best example, Halo2sucks.com

Yeah I agree with you. I really loved H1,2,3,ODST and Wars. I never understood why someone complained about this games. I had so much fun I didn’t even cared about writing stuff on the forums. Then Reach came. I was really much hyped about this game and it was my first and biggest game dissapointment to day. I only write now negative things because I want that 343i changes Halo the way I and many other people liked to play it.

But if you look at this money part of “Reach” and the “players” playing.
Its been proven that in fact “Reach” was a failure into making a AAA money maker.
Also, the growth of the money at first glance reach AA, but didnt quite stand up to the money makers of other games, that i will not say, since this is HALO.
As for the players, its a good community of loyal halo’ers but the numbers for players of release to players now have dropped 40% ish. So in terms of an Ecom guy, this game compared to other halo games did in fact fail.
But it did succed in showing what halo fans really wanted for the future halo games, so here’s to hoping the ship gets the leaks plugged and halo becomes greatness again.
