Is the Grunt Mech what I think it is?

Back in a recent Canon Fodder and Community Update, we got two little snippets of post-Halo 5 lore in regards to the Created and the Unggoy. For a refresher, here they are:

Canon Fodder -
"The horizon is a roiling gyre of smoke and steam. Sizzling plasma arcs across the low clouds, illuminating a twisted nightmare of scorched wreckage strewn across the frozen ground. Seeking shelter, an Unggoy foreman flees from his post, amidst the cackling chatter of a hundred thousand Unggoy hard at work.
Yes, the factories of Balaho are active again!**"

"Following their alliance with Cortana and the Created, the Unggoy were granted nearly limitless resources. Ships empty of life but loaded with advanced technology arrived. New agricultural support stations appeared in orbit, awaiting eager workers to feed the desperate masses below. Where chaos had once reigned, stability and a semblance of order have returned. And something more: a purpose."

*"*With their pressing requirements – food, shelter, medicine – met, Balaho’s finest designers and crafters have worked day and night, tirelessly building their future. From their factories come clever mechanisms and curious cudgels, manufactured with knowledge the Unggoy secretly learned over centuries of oppression and cruelty. The destiny of the Unggoy is unfolding, and this time, THEY will be the elite! Well, maybe."
Community Update -
“It’s so shiny! Me seem to member things looking preeeeeetty bleak there for a while, with me an’ all the other Unggoy spendin’ years just mostly running away from green demons, or mean boss flappy-mouths who just wanted to make sure we got shotted at first.”

“But now… well now the blue lady helps us. I meen, it’s weird and confusing and all because she used to help the green guy be mean to us, then she was mean to the green guy, then nice to us… I don’t know, she’s definitely the most confusing blue lady I’ve seen – I mean, she’s really the ONLY one I’ve seen, but whatevers.”

"Anyway, she must have feeled bad for us getting’ kicked around all the time cause now she sends us stuff to eat and things to be builded…
- Hamyap"

So is this new Unggoy mech the first signs and direct effects of the events of these two short passages? With their factories active again, are these the first of many creations by them?

Seems like it yea, this is pretty cool

Yeah… It seems to be that way.

At first, I didn’t like the Grunt mech because it was too silly. But then I remembered that this is the franchise where you had Brutes urinating on the Ark in Halo 3, and Grunts wanting their food nipple. this is just the right kind of silly that Halo has always had.

I dislike it (the lore) because the san’shyum (spelling?) were the only ones that really were allowed to make new tech and the huragok were mainly the ones that fixed things, for a thousand years. Now everyone can do anything in what 8 years after the covenants collaspe.

While I imagine it is linked to the canon articles, I still wish my dream of it hinting at a ‘Balaho Adventures’ sub campaign were legit.

Seems like the Grunt mech is made even faster than in 8 years, as the text pretty much says Cortana helped them create it.

That was my main issue as well, the Grunts never had the technology to build this kind of thing, and it seems strange that anybody would create a mech for the Grunts. After all, the Grunts have always been just cannon fodder, never really worthy of getting this kind of technology.

But… I guess if Cortana and the Created (which I still highly dislike) are behind creating this, then I suppose it makes sense…

That’s always been a misconception. The Covenant didn’t render, for example, the Sangheili completely without technical expertise; otherwise their tech would always break in the field, or deep-space.

Plus SOMEONE had to work in High Charity’s “Assembly Forges” and the “Sacred Promissory”, in addition to the dozens of manufacturers on Sangheili planets.

I like it and I think it’s hilarious. It’s awesome that they dropped hints back then about the Grunt Goblin. Can’t wait to see it in action!

It’s still possible.
A sub Campaign would be just too good to not do.

It is time for the Grunts to conquer the galaxy
