In Halo CE, there was the flashlight
In Halo 2, there was the flashlight
In Halo 3, there was the flashlight
In Halo ODST, there was the VISOR
In Halo Reach, there was the night vision
In Halo 4, is the flashlight back?
Or is promethean vision all we get?
I asked myself exactly the same question within the first mission of the Campaign.
The AR has one attached, just like in all the previous Halo’s before Reach…Where is the darn switch??? And the Chief’s new and improved Armor has them in his Helmet.
Then I realized…343 made this game…no flashlight…Darn it!!!
There is no flashlight, night vision mode, ViSR, etc. The closest thing is, I suppose, Promethean Vision which lets you see through fog (and I love how this is showcased in the one and only part of the campaign that has thick fog) and through walls.
It’s another bizarre omission but fits in perfectly with 343i’s (presumed) Mission Statement of “Change for Change’s Sake”.
Man, I’m a bitter sod when I post on these forums. I actually quite like the game…
I actually thought after the original trailer of the chief coming out of his cryo tube and his helmet having lights that there would be some form of flashlight, some of the levels in the campaign are dark enough to warrant it.

you sounded reasonable until you started talking bad of 343i.
their removal of flashlight was probably intentional and I don’t see any developers say “so guys lol what can we remove to make people angry? oh yea the flashlight!”
it probably has to do with the engine already pushing the xbox as far as it can. I mean look carefully, most objects far from you aren’t textured and are extra lowres to free memory and power for the rest.
with that in mind do you think it’s possible to add another moving light source?

LOL you are so uninformed. A flashlight has been in halo CE-Halo 3:odst, visor in reach, yet they take it out in halo 4 for no reason, just like 100 other things they took out that had been in halo games for 12 years

To me, halo 4 feels more like halo 2, when they ran out of time and just shipped what they had. The amount of omitted features is stunning, and if it was due to the engine not being able to handle it, they shouldn’t have stretched it so thin.
In many respects, I prefer halo 3. It just feels complete, if you know what I mean.

I keep hearing this line of reasoning used to defend Halo 4’s shortcomings. The ridiculously quick despawning? The hideous impostering and pop-in? The screwy texture resolutions? “But, the processing power, man. 343i are pushing the 360 to its limits, you’ve got to expect sacrifices!”
The 360 isn’t the underpowered, straining box of bolts that some people are portraying it to be. I don’t know what 343’s difficulties are in getting the graphics to work, but what I do know is that plenty of other developers are routinely pushing out games that have more players on screen, longer draw distances, and less graphical glitches.
You played any Far Cry 3 or Battlefield 3 recently? The poor ol’ Xbox isn’t struggling so much with those games, is it?
Basically, there’s no need to whiteknight for 343.

Battlefeild 3 honestly looks like crap on the xbox, there are flickering shadows, and a horrid frame rate, rather glitchy too. Halo Reach had better textures than BF3
