343 have talked about the first slightly larger update to the game coming this month for a while now but we haven’t really heard anything about it yet. We have had some matchmaking tweaks (that did very little to fix the ping/desync problems) and will be getting a rank reset next Tuesday but these are obviously smaller things and not the main update 343 seemed to suggest was happening this month.
My fear is that we are going to have to deal with another delay like what happened with the roadmap which is getting a bit ridiculous 3 months after launch. Especially considering the update will probably just contain some fixes, anti cheat and the roadmap if we are lucky. I mean there is still time to get it out this month but they are cutting it close.
A part of me is still baffled they not only launched an unfinished game (for the third time) but clearly didn’t even have a proper plan in place going forward. I’m not defending the way H5 launched by any means but they were quick to turn things around.

We’ll likely know soon enough - there’s a community update supposed to be posted today with more Info on the February Update: https://twitter.com/Unyshek/status/1494124075299397634
As for a plan - they likely did. However I assume that went out the window pretty quickly, seeing the serious issues that popped up and needed to be handled with priority (BTB being broken likely being the major one, but also the whole shop pricing and single item discussion, networking issues, etc. - we all know the list I guess).
I agree that we should have gotten a roadmap by now. Just saying that likely there were plans but they simply needed to get scrapped.
The lack of a roadmap and that it was delayed from coming out in January is very concerning. We are 3 months into the game, season 2 was originally supposed to be coming soon, but that got delayed the moment they announced the launch of the game. I am very concerned at their lack of providing an overview of a vision as to what we can expect.
Even COD: Vanguard that had more issues at launch than Infinite was given a roadmap, and season 2 just launched.
People, 343 obviously is in damage control mode trying to fix what’s broken as fast as possible.
Is it that hard to understand that some scheduled updates may be delayed because they’re scrambling to fix the problems and because of that any roadmap published in January or February would be meaningless because it wouldn’t include delays caused by the current bughunt?
Does a roadmap need deadlines? We haven’t even been given a schedule of events and modes coming in season 1! We still have 3 months of season 1 with not a single glimpse of what should keep us around. Just give fans a snapshot of what is going on with forge, or any kind of PVE mode they are working on, or plans for DLC to the campaign, or “each season we anticipate to bring along new maps and guns” or some kind of a tease to keep us guessing, but anticipating what’s to come! That’s what a roadmap is for, NOT “coming March 1st, we have 3 new maps” or anything with a hard date. OBVIOUSLY we understand they are in damage control mode as most of the studio is still working from home and bugs come up. But the entire studio isn’t working on bug-fixes.
Yes. Essentially a roadmap is a basic level project plan, and you can’t plan and set expectations if their are fundamental issues that need to be resolved that will directly impact upon those plans and expectations.
Even a high level plan without dates would set expectations and leave them open to more complaints. I’m not defending them here but I can understand from a business perspective that releasing that kind of information when they must have serious question marks over their deliverables would only cause more pressure on their internal departments when they are literally fire fighting already.
They are very much in damage control and clearly must have people working on content, but when that content can’t be released due to other ongoing issues or is dependent on those issues being resolved then it doesn’t make sense to release details (see above with regards to plans and expectations). They are -Yoink!- if they do and -Yoink!- if they don’t at this stage.
Actually, I think it could do more damage to release new content before issues are resolved because they’d get even more backlash that their new modes or maps are unplayable because they didn’t fix the current issues.
It’s much more sensible to wait a bit and release content after fixing bugs for people to like the content instead of getting another wave of hate.
Absolutely agree. There is no benefit to be gained in papering over the cracks at this stage…the cracks are as wide as the Grand Canyon and they will fall right in to it if the fundamental issues aren’t identified and resolved.
I think the community update today may address the mid-feb update. Within the update they will probably explain that when they said “Mid-February” they meant “Season 2”.
Us eagle-eyed Spartans are reading into things too far!
