I’m level 19 and I’ve opened a ton of Gold Packs… a ton. I even used a Xbox gift card I got for Christmas to get some extras. Yet I still haven’t gotten the DMR rifle. Got the SMG and BR. Is this just terrible RNG or is it supposed to be rare?
Furthermore, why do I have to unlock basic weapons? I can’t just have the BR and DMR? I got to go through Gold Packs? It’s bad enough I’m new and everyone on Warzone has modded out weapons that easily demolish me and my stock weapons, but I don’t even have all the basic starting guns. Although I expect the weapon mods to be harder to find, it’s still a terrible starting phase to go through.
Silver Packs contain Common to Rare Reqs.
Gold Packs contain Uncommon to Legendary Reqs.
I’d say you’re just wasting your time opening gold packs. Silver packs will also give Rare’s. You should just open silvers until most of your low-quality Reqs are unlocked, otherwise you’re severely reducing your chances of getting the good stuff that the gold packs contain.
Almost forgot, a large amount of loadout weapons are common quality. Like half the BR variants are common quality. So just open a few bronze packs.

Or, you could just try going for the silver packs and not going all gold thinking it’ll give you much better stuff. (And it won’t, until you unlock a lot of the lower-rarity items)
But people often don’t read descriptions. I’ve gotten 5 DMRs to date, with 3-4 of those originating in silvers packs I’ve earned in my past 5 sessions in comparison to the other times where I went straight to gold.
Lol I can’t get variants if I don’t even have the weapon right? It says on the store it’s (grey) common. I’d really like to be able to use a DMR, it’s my preferred weapon of choice. I just have to pick one up off a dead Spartan. Does the quality of an item determine how hard it is to obtain or how valuable it is? Cause if it’s random that would make sense, I’d think the odds of getting legendary would be lower than getting a common but… I just don’t know.
I have gotten all of my DMRs from silver packs. I’ve actually gotten 2 of them from the daily silver bonus won pack.
I find that when unlocking REQs, the armor and helmets actually alternates so they’re roughly equal with how many you have unlocked.
Start with bronze until you have at least 10 weapons and armor each. You will also get a lot of common loadout weapons, and weapon certifications. After having at least 30 or so common ls perm unlocked, go for silver packs and don’t stop with silver until you have a handful of silver armor to go.
And if you get the war zone bundle which gives 2 packs per week for seven weeks, save the! Don’t open them until much much later as you will just waste them and get uncommon and common reqs in them if you pop them early on.
The idea is to limit your pool of reqs available for unlocking when you go to open gold packs, or the war zone bundle packs. With most common, uncommon, and rates unlocked, you will be almost guaranteed ultra rates and legendaries.
Nothing sucks like opening a gold pack and getting 2 uncommon emblems though.

All the DMR are rare or higher. You can unlock variants before the base one, but they’ll be less useful - base DMR is req 6, silencer and kinetic rounds is 7, long barrel, laser sight, and anti recoil are 8. I haven’t gotten the energy blade variant yet, but I assume it’s 8 as well. I got most of mine from silver packs. You’ll never get the recon or sentinel versions from silver, but eventually you will get the longshot ones. I would keep buying silver. I only just got to clearing out all the silver unlockables (just in time for them to release a bunch more in the update yay /s) and I’m still waiting to get a sentinel or recon DMR after going through a dozen or so gold packs. Pray to the RNGods.
I didn’t get any until level 67, and then I suddenly got 4 since then (+5 lvls). RNG is weird like that.
Almost only ever used silver packs though, not completely optimal but not the worst.
I got mine from a silver pack, at level 50…
If you want to get it as fast as possible, buy ONLY silver packs for the best chance (4 guaranteed permanent unlocks per 10,000 spent).
Forget about gold packs on F2P account, those are mainly just for P2W players

Otherwise you might open a gold pack and find a common unlock in it that you could have gotten via bronze. There are even markers when you have nothing more to unlock with a certain type of pack. you get 250rp in a bronze pack when its time to switch to silver and 500rp when you need to open gold packs…
by the way - i found a dmr relatively early but at least on warzone assault the matches are over before you get to use the dmr…

I haven’t played assault in ages precisely because it’s difficult to go long enough to get the big reqs. I usually make it to 6 before the match is over unless one team or the other completely dominates. Seven isn’t uncommon either. Eight though I rarely make unless both teams are evenly matched and split the legendary bosses. Which is too bad because it’s fun to get the energy blade SMG and run around with active camo meleeing people.
