I hope they speak English, the only games were they didn’t were Halo: Reach and Halo: CE. In Halo: CE they just decided not to, while in Halo: Reach they wanted to make them more Alienish and also because it is right before Halo: CE. When they started to make more of a Universe after Halo: CE they all just spoke English as you can hear in Halo Wars as well. They can talk in their own language when they’re talking to each other though.

I think in one of the new campaign videos I heard a grunt speak, but i’m not sure.

I hope so. The Chief has translation software in his helmet so it wouldn’t be canon otherwise. Unless he turns it off.

Not sure about Halo 4’s Elites, but I did do a damn good effort on translating Halo Reach’s Elites - Thing is they used specific dialog for certain actions, from that I was able to deconstruct what they said by having the words translate as literal translations.

Yes I had way too much time on my hands (it took me several months but at least its something that I can add to Halo canon for the Elite fanbase).

Nope Master Chief’s armor mysteriously stop translating what the Covenant races said. You can tell Cortana’s upgrade to the armor worked well.

It happens all the time, just go with it. How they keep finding 4-12 month old threads is beyond me, but they aren’t all bad.
