I do very well with the magnum and most of the time I prefer to just keep it and not even bother switching to the BR. I just like the light handling/weight of the magnum. Am I missing out on a stronger weapon by not switching it out with the BR? Or can the Magnum hold its own against other precision weapons? I feel it does, you just have to land every headshot…curious what others thought…thanks!
The magnum is viable enough to stand against a BR, but at range the BR will outclass the magnum
I think the classic br Is a good upgrade.

I can agree with that…I know that distant targets seem harder to take out with the Magnum it seems…I feel I have to aim more.
They’re balanced at upper close-lower middle range, with the magnum having a slight advantage at close range. But the BR has a HUGE range advantage and is viable at almost every distance. I’d it’s generally worth a swap.
it’s a balanced magnum but at longer ranges it doesn’t do as well as the BR. plus it’s a 5sk and the BR is 4. it’s worth the few seconds to change the loadout or to pick one up. now I will keep my magnum with the BR because the pistol draws quicker than switching to the AR, should you need to.

yeah so in closer encounters magnum is sufficient enough to take down a BR. But you should switch to BR if you wanna go for range.
BR will beat pistol at long range and probably medium. Although, I’ve stolen some crazy ranged kills with the pistol.
It all depends on how good of a shot you are with the BR. If you like the Magnum and are a good shot with it then keep it. You will do fine in every encounter except long range. If you keep that in mind you can position yourself in a way that there are no long range encounters.
The Magnum in H5 is really sweet. Love it’s power and range but I’ll switch to a BR primary when I can.
No, but the BR is easier to use and of course better at range.
What are you guys on? Of course the BR is better.
Yes, the pistol can stand it’s own, more or less, but at the end of the day the BR is 4sk while the Magnum is 5sk. Additionally, the BR is more forgiving because of it’s burst fire.
The only thing I’d say the Magnum has over the BR is how fast it swaps and reloads. BR is almost completely superior because of its range and the ability to spray for a headshot against an unshielded player.

Bodyshots do the same damage against shields as headshots, so the only shot that needs to be a headshot is the last. Probably the most common misconception people have. The only “exception” is the BR, since your last (4th) shot will technically be against shields, so you have to aim at their shielded head in order to get the very last bullet in that burst to hit their unshielded head.
If you look up the kill times for each weapon, you can see what 343’s strategy was: make everything worth picking up.
Magnum and AR are supposed to be mediocre by design, both in kill times + the fact that they do not specialize in any particular range.
This means that pretty much everything on the map will inherently provide you with a bit of advantage for a particular set of scenarios.
If you know that your opponents are going to be trying for mostly mid-range battles with magnum/AR starts, that means they are unprepared to face a DMR at long range or an SMG at close range.
You always want to try to put your opponent in situations they don’t want to be in and H5 offers more ways to do that than ever before with the large & (mostly) balanced weapon sandbox, combined with the ease of map movement due to sprint/grapple/thrust.

Only thing I don’t really like is how the Magnum basically outclasses the AR by allowing people to always keep their distance. It was the same problem Halo: Reach had. People use their Magnum as a primary and then whip out the AR on the off chance that they have to defend themself up close. I feel like the magnum is totally unnecessary for the sandbox and the game would be more fun if you JUST started with an AR. They gave it a zoom function and made bursting a viable choice, yet it rarely ever gets used because you also spawn with a mini-DMR in your back pocket.
The BR is more damaging than the Magnum, 4 shot kill with BR 5 shot kill with Magnum. But if you practice with the Magnum enough you can kill BR players at long ranges.
