I’ve been watching pro level Halo matches recently and I noticed that on what I consider 3 of the most played maps in Halo 5 (Fathom, Empire and Colisseum) have a pair of Boltshots, and all of these Boltshots are never picked up. The weapon seems to be very irrelevant in Arena so I have a burning question: why have them as pickups if nobody ever uses them?
As it stands, the Boltshot is currently less useful than the AR, so why have a weapon that is worse than the close-mid range automatic that everyone looks to swap out for a better gun? I think the Boltshot could be upgraded to their Closed Fist variant, but given less ammo to dampen its usefulness and actually make players of a higher skill level (or any skill level) actually think about picking it up, or they could be replaced by the Gunfighter Magnum (fills the same roll as the Boltshot as a close-midish range semi-auto weapon) once the Anvil’s Legacy update arrives.
So what do you think about this? Is the Boltshot a viable weapon that you would choose over the AR or Magnum? And feel free to give your CSR in your comment to identify what competition level you are currently playing at.
The Boltshot’s use is pretty much for easy kills on fleeing players or players who aren’t aiming at you. It will kill slower than any other weapon barring maybe the Suppressor, but it doesn’t miss, so if you’re not taking fire, you’ll probably get the kill. Aside from that, it’s great against prometheans in campaign and firefight, where human and covenant weapons lack strength.
However, in Arena, if you can aim well with a pistol or battle rifle, you’re better off with one of those.
I believe adding the closed fist as req variant to the Arena sandbox is a great idea! It would compete with the hydra for reliability and use and it would have around the same TTK.
I havent used the closed fist, but the normal boltshot even though is not THE high tear weapon you need is actually usefull in some situations, you just gotta know when (comes with practice)
Boltshot is made for medium range engagments, tracking isn’t efficient at close range, but it’s mostly irrelevant, although seeing a closed fist in arena would make it relevant once more
This is a good question. I don’t want to call it irrelevant as I have had good success with it, especially in FFA. But for some reason I don’t pick it up all that often either.
I use as soon as I can in Arena, if used right, you can win lots of one-on-one battles.
Example: Battle commences:
Both shields down, health low. Enemy using (none power weapon), you have Blotshot. You use the thruster pack just after you pull the trigger on your last shot, AR misses you, your Boltshot locks onto the target and takes them out.

Did you see that they added the Song of Peace suppressor to the Rig?
It is on the far left walkway opposite the stairs that go down to the basement area.
I feel that Boltshots are used more in the lower Arena ranks. When I was still in Silver/Gold, people were using it a lot. Going up to platinum, no one ever uses it, and the reason for that is pretty simple: they can aim. The Boltshot’s appeal is it’s tracking ability. If you’re good enough to hit a five-shot with a pistol, or barely miss, then you don’t really need the Boltshot.
On your suggestion to upgrade the Boltshots to less-reserve-ammo Closed Fists, I think it would be really OP. I feel that Closed Fists is one of the most underrated REQs in Warzone, especially early game. It has a lot of ammo capacity and extremely fast fire rate. Combine that with more damage than a pistol and tracking, Closed Fist could pretty easily outshoot even a BR at mid range. You’d need to use a Smart-Scope BR or a DMR to take it down. On that, I may be wrong. I just recall it’s insane fire rate.
