Is the Art style good or bad?

Do you think the Art Style/design is good or bad?
In my opinion they nailed it with the art style, everything looks different than previously.
Except for the UNSC architecture, it needs a lot of work, too much white with zero detail.
I wan’t the UNSC stuff to look millitary-based again.

It’s gorgeous.

Sure, the users of waypoint could go on and on about “this armor had too many details in this spot” or “this map has a similar building”, the fact is that 343i has used their higher budget and art team to make an entirely new world.

Look back at a lot of halo 2 and 3. A lot of it looked too 20th century for a game set in 2552. But now, every city looks futuristic, every gun looks like a product of a thousand years of gun technology’s advancement.

Halo 5 looks more like a full Sci fi world, rather that a modern world with some futuristic elements.

I like it.

If we were to break it down into a technicality; math, science, and all that jazz. You will probably find it is considered “good” If you were to go by the chemically befuddled human mind? shrug

?

It has lost it’s halo feel, Halo used to have it’s own visual-identity until Bungie left and 343 changed it, I prefer the more down-to-earth, “used-universe”-Look Bungie had… 343 is too over-the-top and to overdesigned in my opinion

I use to love it too, It looked like a war was actually going on, and a lot of stuff in Halo 3 and Reach looked kinda gritty.

> the old one went for a more grimy runic sci-fi that really merged elements from quintessential sci-fi novels with religious and mythological aesthetics. the new one takes the word sci-fi and gives you the most obvious and generic example of what sci-fi could be…white, metal, shiny, clean and set in space with the skyboxes usually being a panoramic map of nebulas. i dont care who makes the game but the clear distinction is bungie was more subtle, minimalistic and had a clear sense of personality, 343 does not.

Quoting an old post someone made, because it’s pretty much how I feel.

The new style is bad. Any unique flavor the game had has been replaced with generic sci-fi.

Forerunner Architecture does not even remotely resemble what it used to be, and there is no variety anymore in UNSC Architecture either.

It can’t be inherently bad or good, it’s something each individual chooses/feels if the like or dislike. I happen to love it. It feels different enough that it keeps me interested.

I have a dilemma here, cause I like the new art-style and I think it fits Halo, but seeing Halo 2 Anniversary’s campaign, I see that the old one screams Halo.

The art seems fine to me

The Halo 5 art design is very consistent I’ll give them that. Halo 4 felt like a mismatched bunch of new assets and leftovers from Reach.

It does feel like 343 have found their artistic voice and that is where the divide is going to be for people. Bungie has there own distinct art style and eye for aesthetics. Chances are you are going to prefer one or the other and the original style is going to have a bigger draw for some long time fans.

I have my issues with 343’s art direction and the UNSC in particular, it feels like we have gone from Aliens to Prometheus in terms of design. That being said, I don’t think 343 trying to do their best Bungie impression would really improve anything to any real degree. Despite my complaints, I’ve decided to just take the artistic changes in the games as I would with any of the comics, animation, etc. Different artists have different interpretations and if we spend all art time trying to get them all to line up we will never get anywhere.

That is not to say that complaints about changes are not valid, they absolutely are(and I have quite a few myself).

The human maps seem boring to look at so far, but that’s okay as long s they’re fun to play on.

Ups and downs. Some of the halo 4 armors were terrible but then they go and make this beauty.

That sounds like something I would have written!

the original Halos were more influenced by an industrial UU style, inspired by Aliens to a degree and the UNSC ship crew had colored uniforms which reminded me of star trek. It used to have more of an old school sci fi vibe. Now its more like high sci fi, even moreso than mass effect…its hard to explain. Halo 4s armor designs were amongst the worst i’ve ever seen in a video game imo.

I like the art style very much but art is so subjective so we should see a few different opinions in here most likely.

I really like their art style. Humans arent at war really, so they probably did some architectual enchancements that also did some industrialization. The covies have dark purple rounded curves with blue and green lights. The forerunners use metals with blue and orange lights with floating points. I like the spartan models, the armor in h5 looks titanium. It all seems right to me.

I like the high sci fi look but agreed that halo 4 armors were pretty bad.

Reach had a competely diffrent visual style than all previous Halo games and yet was made by Bungie.

I like it. It really looks good in my opinion. Really, really good. When I see covenant I go “Snap, that’s alien!”, while with forerunner “Dnap, that’s super high tech!” And with unsc, I go “Snap, that’s humans gone to space!”, so I can only describe it as a success.
