Just to be clear up front this isn’t another Halo 5 will fail thread.
I’ve been playing Halo since the day CE came out and to me the one thing that made Halo stand out was the art of strafing. I can’t remember another game that relied so heavily upon gun battles and strafing strategically while fighting. Halo 1 of course had the pistol. Halo 2 and 3 the BR. Halo Reach the DMR. Halo 4 the DMR and BR. In every one of these games (even the abomination that reach was) strafing never really was messed with aside from Reach.
What makes Halo 5 different is the inclusion of the thruster pack, and yes I know they will have a cooldown but to me it seems it will take away from this very core aspect of what made for some very intense moments. I’m sure strafing will still play a very significant part in Halo 5 but not in the same way that it did in past games. Strafing and a good BR could very easily be the distinction between your average or casual player and a literal pro. I know that it will be balance in the sense that every one will have it but that doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t get spammed for lack of a better word.
Just would like to hear everyones thoughts on this.
Strafing will still be important as ever. The thruster pack is proof of this. The “art” of moving while shooting in any FPS will probably never die, especially in Halo’s case seeing as we can be just as accurate without aiming.

Thrusting while in a 1v1 may even be risky. If the other player can keep track of you while you thrust to the left/right, Then you’re putting yourself at risk since you can’t shoot back, Giving the other the upper hand.
I feel personally that strafing has in many ways been dead since Halo 3, I’ve played every game on multiplayer extensively since Halo 2 & I feel like people are more concerned with hiding behind some rock than coming out & trying to best the other person via strafing.

at least they already have it timed. Trying to get into a head on fight in Advanced warfare is ridiculous because the other person can boost two straight times without a cool down.
Ive been testing strafing and the ability to dodge enemy fire extensively the past few months before MCC came out. It is a sad day for me because it is the main thing i liked about halo.
From my testing the only games where strafing is effective in order (In my opinion) is
Halo 1
Halo 3
Halo reach tied with halo 3 depending on settings used.
Every other halo is brain dead easy to stay on your target during rifle battles.

Yup, Halo 3 started the decline of the strafe, that is when they slowed down player speed and added movement acceleration and aim-acceleration which further took away from strafing. IMO all the would have to do is up base player speed and either decrease or get rid of movement acceleration and that would increase the emphasis on strafing, i would also decrease aim-assist and bullet magnetism and a lot maybe give the option to turn off aim-assist and give the option of setting your own level of aim-acceleration.
Quake, Doom, Unreal, Marathon, Duke Nukem, Team Fortress, Xonotic, Shootmania, list goes on
Halo was not the only game with emphasis on strafing, nor was it the first.

I think strafing is very important to Halo. And I fear that the thruster pack would destroy that. At least you can get into strafing battles in Halo 4 and I still found some in Reach. But I don’t know how much we will be seeing it in 5.

I personally<3 Strafe. I have always wanted to pull off an awesome strafe back when I played Halo 4. And especially the “SKrafe” (I don’t think its lag, because SK did it on LAN) if you understand what I am talking about. If you don’t, well, the SK strafe is when someone moves side to side at 2x speed, which is very hard to pull off.
Lets get to the point… Does Halo 5 use the “art” of strafing?
Not like it used to be. Halo 5 is based on Teamwork, map control, and positioning. The way the maps are made mean LESS 1v1 opportunities, which makes LESS chances to actually pull off a strafe. Also, since you unscope after being shot, it discourages long range battles, which can also discourage strafing a little bit more. Nonetheless, it isn’t completely gone.
Lets look at the bright side!
You must use your map to your advantage when you strafe, which is more crucial in Halo 5, considering the way the maps were made and how fast you get killed. Strafing is indeed different than how it used to be, however we can still definitely adapt to the situation to our advantage, and 1v1 gunfights are not completely gone, and many players will be caught off guard when the time comes.
I hope this helps!
