Just like the title, is the Ark that the campaign takes place on the same one from Halo 3 that I thought we destroyed? I find a lot of people saying we destroyed it completely and yet I remember in campaign Isabell said that its the same one we discovered in Halo 3, but no actual piece of lore says this is true so anyone out there with evidence that this is true or not please come forward. Also no one is asking this question to my knowledge, so this thread is purely for the archives so that we are sure we have an answer to this particular question.
I haven’t played Halo 3’s campaign for years so correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe we destroyed the Halo being built inside the Ark rather than the Ark itself. This is the same Ark though I believe.
Yes ,it is the same one.

That’s correct. That’s why some of the ark and the maps are bare metal. It’s because installation 4B destroyed all life on the ark. The ring that Anders uses is installation 4C. This can be explained better by reading the book Halo: Hunters in the dark and by using Halopedia.
It’s the same one. After the halo event, the Ark was really, really heavily damaged, and in need of repairs. The monitor of the installation utilized retriever sentinels to strip-mine planets to the point of nonexistence to repair the Ark, and even tried to destroy earth through this method.
I’m a bit shaky on this part, but I’m pretty sure that a Spartan team shut down the monitor. The Henry Lamb research outpost we see at the start of the game was then created so that human scientists could oversee the remaining reconstruction of the Ark.

This is correct. It is named after Henry Lamb who was a scientist on the ark expedition in Hunters in the Dark and was killed while there.

Vale was there before she became a Spartan, too. And the 2 other elites that players 3 and 4 played as in Halo 3 co-op are in it, too.
It was a joint operation between the UNSC and the Swords of Sanghelios.
I thought I saw somewhere it wasn’t the H3 Ark but a bigger one, an Ark Major or something. There’s an article about it on Halopedia, though I’m too lazy to give a link
The H3 Ark was destroyed, 343 Guilty Spark said, and I quote, “B-b-b-b-but a premature firing will destroy the Ark!” I’m sure it’s explained in the books (eye roll).

I don’t understand why it would go after earth when the ark is outside of the galaxy itself and we aren’t anywhere near it. But I guess if its in one of the books then maybe. But the ark uses a localized star at its core to build and manufacture halos and a single planet alone should have been more than sufficient to repair the ark unless it needed one for each arm and where the hell was the ark monitor during Halo 3 I though mendicant and offensive bias were in charge of the Ark as they monitor and primary ancilla.

Ark Major was the one that built the original(larger but weaker) Halos. It was destroyed eons ago during the forerunner-flood war.

Because the ark’s monitor was literally in the structure of the ark. The damage done to the ark was catastrophic, and subsequently so was the damage to the Monitor’s processing functions. That monitor blamed humanity for it’s condition and the destruction of the instillation, so it tried to destroy our home.
That’s the reason from the storyline, at least.

I suppose we just accept it as a weak plothole because apparently all monitors excluding Pennant Tangent and Exuberant Witness have been counter intuitive to their protocol that acknowledges Reclaimers access to installations and prioritizes their installation over serving the reclaimers.

I see. Thanks for clearing that up!

There is no plothole. Without access to the domain, which only went back online recently, Forerunner AI can go rampant and stop obeying their core principles, just like when Cortana nearly gets Chief killed in 4. Even less of a plot hole as there was an actual conflict, as the Ark’s monitor was both meant to protect the Ark and help the inheritors…but we denoted a ring on it and did severe damage that’s still being repaired six years later.
The monitor was, rightfully, very angry. And to be fair, Spark when he went off the rails was following priority instructions…containment of the flood. Which means the only monitors not following instructions correctly are 00s, who was halo bombed, 05s which was in the hands of the gravemind. And remember, forerunner AIs have alot more free will then human ones.
Ok after much research the Ark in Halo Wars 2 and in Halo 3 is the same and is known as the lesser ark and the monitor is KIA due to spartans and going rampant.

Yep, covered in the Forerunner Trilogy and Hunters in the Dark.
This topic has be going on for too long, I’ll provide the simple answer. There were originally two arks, The greater and Lesser arks. The greater arks halos were too big so they made the lesser ark. The greater ark was destroyed by the flood and a forerunner AI. That leaves one ark left, The lesser ark. I hope that answers the question.

There is only one Ark.
No Greater or Lesser Ark BS.
That should never have been a thing.
