is swat considered "halo"?

my friends feel that swat isn’t halo, and that if you really wanted to play halo, you wouldn’t go anywhere near the swat playlist because, “no real halo player likes it”

how does this forum feel about the game-mode? do you think it has it’s place in halo?

on a side note: i find it weird that we give breakout crap, for pretty much the same reasons we praise swat (the ones that do anyway)

I call breakout and swat “COD mode” as in “I saw you, so you are dead”. To me a longer ttk is one of the keys to what makes Halo and those modes are insta-kill.

swat has its special place in halo .

SWAT was the first PvP for me. I used to enjoy it alot, and it is for that reason synonymous with HALO.

It is, is like a hardcore mode.

It’s not to me… it’s more of a game mode available in Halo

Yes, because it’s the only game mode I’m good at

Although it may be easy compared to the rest of Halo it’s still Halo, it’s been here since Halo 2 and has been in every game since.

It’s a side gametype. Whether or not it follows Halo’s more fundamental gameplay principles is kinda irrelevant. It’s purposely added to be a fun little departure from the actual thing, as it is with most other gametypes that drastically alter the formula. Gametypes in my opinion are the proper way to introduce gameplay gimmicks like Armor Abilities and Spartan Abilities, as opposed to embedding them into every facet of the game…

Niche modes can exist in Halo so long as they don’t influence or take too much attention away from the main game (cough Warzone cough). Seriously pisses me off when I see a balance, game design or suggestion thread and it’s 90% of the time about Warzone, but I digress.

Which is why SWAT and Infection are fine. They don’t require any special re-design or balancing, and they’re contained.

Anyways, SWAT obviously isn’t the definitive Halo experience.

It is a classic Halo staple playlist. It is most definitely Halo.

It’s definitely not CoD, as no amount of foot-shots will get you kills. Sure it does some damage, but no one is going to stand still and not return fire and let you kill them by not making headshots, generally speaking. Headshots are still the name of the game, in typical Halo fashion.

Yes, it is. Your friend apparently doesn’t know halo just by looking at the case. Swat has been in Halo for years dude. I’ve played Halo since 2 (sadly a little late from CE.) and I was hoping something like that would happen. So yes it is REAL, halo.

Halo is supposed to have everything for everyone. SWAT itself isn’t “Halo”, but it is part of what makes (made) Halo great: It’s a different way to play for those that enjoy it. Just the same as Team Hardcore, BTB, Grifball, Infection, etc are.

I never liked SWAT, I don’t now, and I never will. With all due respect to the people who enjoy the game-mode, I don’t consider it to be a true Halo experience.

There’s multiple ways of looking at this situation. It’s a very, VERY philosophical question. To elaborate, is Halo Wars “Halo”? Spartan Assault? Halo skins in Minecraft?

I take the logical, non emotional side. The Vulcan side, if you will. Whatever 343 says is Halo is Halo. Spartan Strike is Halo, Halo Online is Halo, and SWAT is Halo.

If you enjoy thinking about these things, I highly suggest reading Halo and Philosophy.

I’m all for Swat, it’s up there in my favorite game modes. Breakout has slowly been making it’s way into my heart as well.

  • Swat takes a lot of skill, your must be quick to pull the trigger, and you must also be precise to aim toward the head. - Breakout reminds me of one of the game types in Gears of War, you have one life, then you’re out. It ramps up the difficulty factor and the importance of teamwork. Both are “Halo” in my eyes.

i feel SWAT in Halo 5 is the worst compared to all the other Halo games it was in. My only issue with 5’s SWAT is Spartan Charge and Ground Pound, it takes most the fun out of the game mode

…Despite the fact that Swat was a staple playlist since Halo 2, long before CoD’s rise to fame. I seriously dont see the connection. The gameplay and speed is still halo, it’s just headshots are as lethal as they should be. Even CoD hasnt mastered that yet unless you’re playing hardcore, but body shots are almost insta kills in HC too anyway.

Interesting OP… SWAT is a good option to give players to play in but I do agree with the sentiment that it isn’t “Halo”. A lot of people will give me flak for this I know but I feel that " Halo" is about having both shields and radar. That it’s about using the right weapons in the right situation to tip the odds in your favor as well as using team work to dominate the maps (unless you’re playing Rumble Pit in which case it’s more about waiting for the right moment to strike one or multiple fighting targets). It’s about grenade bouncing and headshots, combos and out maneuvering or out smarting your opponents.

In that sense I don’t consider SWAT to be traditional Halo but I do find it a necessary playlist to add variety in the types of fun that you can have with Halo.
