Is sprint REALLY a problem

So lately there has been a lot of complains about sprint and I ask you is it really a big problem?
No. That’s the problom. The problem with sprint is that it takes no skill. Take a look at Halo: CE! Everything in that game took skill! Grenade jumping is hard, rocket jumping is hard, jumping with a friend took timing and teamwork, straifing is hard, the pistol is hard, the sniper is hard, nading weapons is hard, nading power ups is hard, rocketing power ups is hard, there was no ingame clock, rotating around the map was hard, controlling teleporters was hard, the weapon glitches were hard, flag tricks were hard, negating fall damage was hard, the CE spawn system was super complex and Halo: CE is a masterpiece. Now in halo 5 (outside of nading weapons) what is hard in this game? Sprinting- easy, thrust- easy, GP- easy, charge- easy, pistol- easy, slide- easy, nades- easy…
If there was non of this mobility BS the players would have to learn to get around the map with nade jumps and controlling teleporters, but that took skill…
The problem with sprint is that it takes no skill…

Sprinting isn’t really a problem it’s more annoying than a problem

Holy moley another sprint thread takes no skill had no idea pressing buttons was hard.

Is there a point you would like to drive?

Competitive fighting games are pretty much nothing but pressing buttons.

At any rate I think that was the OP’s main point anyways? To sprint you simply press a button and you’re instantly rewarded for doing so.

This whole argument is based on the premise that if something isn’t difficult to do then it isn’t worth doing? Well, pulling the right trigger to fire bullets is pretty easy. So where’s the “shooting guns takes no skill” thread? Jumping is pretty easy too. How about instead of hitting one button to jump we ask 343 to make it a six button / two bumper / one trigger combo? Let’s see. Melee, anyone? Pretty easy to just hit that one button, am I right? Or am I right? Takes no skillz at all!

Somebody please explain to me what I’m missing in this “argument?”

Sprint should be taken out, people (more people than you think) love the older Halos more, I mean, Halo Wars 2 just came out with a trailer that has the older Halo art style and people are going nuts. This is what most of the Classic fans want back, just bring back the classic themes, the classic art style, and classic gameplay, 343, and you will be rewarded!

  • Sprint is a problem. I shouldn’t have a get out of jail free button. I should have to fight my way out if I move where I shouldn’t. I’ll give 343 that it is far mor tolerable in h5 but that doesn’t fix the maps, that doesn’t allow guns to be more than redundancies.

Sprinting isn’t necessarily problem. I will admit, many people cheat death by sprinting away. However, I applaud 343 for nerfing the recovery of shields while sprinting. Made it a little more balanced. What I really do not like is spartan charging. It rewards people being reckless who would otherwise die in any other Halo game. I don’t mind people sprinting and melee me, but to give someone extra range on a charge, knocking my shields and health completely down to absolute, knockback, and the ability to avoid a melee back is ridiculous.

Sprinting prevents regen and disables your weapon. When was the last time you played h3? I love that game, but when I play it anymore I get incredibly frustrated by how SLOWWWWW movement is.

I feel that way too. There has to be a middle ground between the slow and floaty jumping of Halo 2-3 and the sprinting of Halo 4 & 5. Don’t forget that vanilla Halo 3 was arguably too slow. The only reason the speed was not increased was because bungie was a bit stubborn. The MLG halo settings had faster speed(120%) which str8 up improved the game even if you only played campaign or BTB.

I would personally vote for finding a nice, high speed (Halo 3 speed @ 120% for instance) and trying to build the game around that. I don’t have the answer but I know I don’t want Halo to have sprint.

FoV alone significantly changes the feel of a game’s speed. Halo Ce splitscreen has a horizontal FoV of I believe 108 degrees and it feels significantly faster compared to something like Halo 3’s 76 degrees. Amusingly I’m pretty sure the actual base speed of the original three games is the same or roughly the same, it’s the FoV that makes them feel so different.

Increasing the FoV has other benefits as well like giving the player more situational awareness. And as a PC gamer you should be used to such high FoV’s, low FoV’s are almost exclusively a console problem.

Adjust the FoV and give a slight increase to movement speed. The game will feel faster but the actual pacing of matches won’t be negatively impacted.

Edit: Loaded Halo Ce in Splitscreen and it is definitely above the 100 degrees shown in that video. So yeah, probably 108.

I feel like what you are saying is a little unfair.
My “argument” was never “based on the premise that if something isn’t difficult to do then it isn’t worth doing”. Shooting guns takes skill because you need to use your nerv- system to take aim at your enemies. Now I’m sure someone is going to be like: “Doesn’t pressing sprint button also take skill” and yes it does(because sprinting is hard) but after that we must ask ourselves the second question: “What kind of skill do we want to see from a game of halo”…
Do we want to see the kind of gameplay where pressing your “gotta go fast “sonic the hedgehog””- button is a huge advantage?
Or do we want to see players their mental strength to their advantage. You made a joke about having to press many buttons to jump, but in Halo: CE you needed to press multiple buttons to do a nade jump with a huge risk/reward. That was an amazing mechanic that took skill…
So can we just habe skillful movement PLZ?
But what do I know…
Just a lonely dude from Finnnnland…

Halo 2 and 3 definitely feel very dated. H5 feels state of the art.

I really think it is a problem, and most Halo players agree with me.

I’m not saying anyone is wrong but I think sprinting is fine because there’s still skill needed to move further, weapons, maps and strategies.

I get the feeling that sprint complaints should be a banned subject. Not like. Ban OP. But strictly lock or make it disappear. But if people really feel like sprint is a problem, they’re just stuck in the past with halo 3.

Tell me,
What is it that you would like to see from a halo game?
