Is rushing in 3's an unbeatable strategy?

I’m an advocate rusher, I do it all the time in HW1, and now in HW2. Countering and pulling off a rush can definitely take some sort of skill in 2’s and 1v1’s, but with Ander’s sentinals being way overtuned, and the way the maps are designed for 3’s, it seems to be impossible to viably counter a rush without you yourself mirroring their units, and even still, if the enemy team has two anders to your one or none, it seems to be an instant loss. The bases are spreas way too far from eachother, making defending allies significantly harder, so it becomes a 1v3 three times. It also doesn’t help that sentinals are basically a tech 2-3 unit that can be spammed within a few minutes of the game. That being said, my friends and I have destroyed our W/L’s trying to create a viable counter rush, and it isn’t possible. Choppers, jackrabbits, and sentinals are too cheap, and turrets can be too expensive at 5 minutes. Even after a successful counter rush in 3v3, what ends up happening is you’ve wasted all your resources countering their attack, and then they own the entire map. I’d like to hear anyones thoughts or strategies on super turtling in HW2, because rushing seems way too powerful right now.

While I agree that Anders sentinels are a bit much you can counter them with gosshogs or marines early on. But you have to prep for it. But other wise you can counter it. Anders definitely needs to be tweaked though because those sentinels can out run my hogs and easily marines

Sentinals are a hard counter to vehicles. You’ll need a sizeable amount of wolverines to even counter an army of sentinels.

Dude, are you joking. You don’t have time to get that if they’re rushing you. And even if you do get warthogs, 3 brute choppers and 5 grunt squads > warthog

Also, you are rushing units to counter a rush. That isn’t countering the rush, that’s trying to rush better than the rusher.

You should be able to build turrets and some marines, not a bigger army than the rusher, to fend of a rush.

It can be defended against for a bit by tech 2 rushing and then going into wolverines. Generator first upgrade it then generator second and upgrade that one also (I think). Make sure you have your marines running around collecting supplies while doing this so you can make your supply pads. Then get your garage up eventually. Sentinels don’t start coming in until the 4 or 5 min mark.

The thing with sentinels though is that they can micro a bit and just aim down your bases and got away with at least half of their army or more. Sentinels are way faster then marines/wolverines so if the game became a base trade, the guy(s) making sentinels will always win.

By the time sentinels come out I have about 10 gosshogs and about 4 wolvies. Granted I haven’t had as much luck with that for rushes 100% So i’m going to switch to marines and wolvies because those sentinels do eat up hogs quick. But like I said Anders units will out run my wolvies but at least my base will survive the sentinels rush. They need to slow them down or speed up some of the AA units.

To vehicles?? How about to everything that exists?! They vaporize bases in 15-25 seconds. Really?

Yeah, those sentinels are ridiculous. And I think everyone genuinely means that when they say it.

I think they should slow the whole pace of the game down, the first Halo Wars was much slower and allowed for better strategies (going long term was viable).

I think the games pace is spot on. Me an my friend just did a 2v2 game where it lasted almost an hour lol

Yeah honestly I think the pace is good but just like the first halo wars to keep the game going that long you have to be able to survive a potential rush. Rushing is nothing new in halo wars but I I’ve never truly hated it. I’ve found that a lot of the people who have tried to rush me so far have been very lacking in skill when it comes to late game strategy. Of course this isn’t always true but it’s just a general trend I’ve noticed while playing 2v2s with a friend. I feel like most rushes are easy to counter if you know they’re coming but yeah i do understand the frustration with the sentinel rush. They’ve always been a much more difficult one to counter they have such high maneuverability and damage and since you can just build them out of a base, you can get a strong economy behind them because you don’t have to build anything but supply pads and generators.

Whoa, you slow down with those suggestions.

Not everything needs to be slowed down, but yes, some stuff needs tweaking.

Slower the game ?
Are u -Yoinking!- kidding me ?
The fast pace thing is making this game awesome (exept for d/c,lag,lattency,no ladder)

If you have time to upgrade to gauss, build 10 of them and 4 wolverines, you aint been rushed.

What I mean with the pacing, it’s straight into building units and trying to rush out a quick offensive/defensive. In the first game, a rush took around about 7-10 minutes. In this game, it’s 4-5. That’s a huge change in pace. Not to forget that rushing in halo wars 2 is much more viable due to the ability to build marines/grunts right off the bat instead of having to build a barracks!
