I’m Just going to start off by saying that I am a big fan of Halo 5, I think the multiplayer mechanics are pretty damn near perfect and it’s the most fun I’ve had on a game since Halo 3. I also hate posts like the one I am about to make so I recommend just watching the end of this video rather than hearing out whatever nonsense I have to say.
Right, I see a lot of people complaining on these forums about Halo 5’s distinct lack of content at launch including missing content such as Infection, firefight, and social playlists. The obvious reason for this content being missing (as described in the video) is because it would drive players away from Warzone, causing less players being exposed to req items, less req packs sales and less profit for 343 and Microsoft. You could argue that the content was missing because 343 have built this game from the ground up (and done a brilliant job of it!) and they didn’t have time to include all the content. That’s a fair argument, but it’s near the end of March now and we don’t have nearly as much content as we should by now.
Here’s where my opinion gets salty: The more req packs 343 sells, the more reason they have to keep the Warzone population strong and the more reason they have to not release content which may impact that population. I’m not saying 343 are evil, they’re just a business. Anybody in their shoes would make the same decision. I believe that 343 want to make Halo the amazing diverse game it used to be, but the incentive to keep people playing Warzone is just too high.
The solution: Stop buying req packs. 343 will continue to hold back content until every last potential req pack sale has been made, so the sooner people stop buying them the sooner we get real juicy content. Again, 343 aren’t evil, it’s just an obvious and profitable business strategy. So if you want more variety to the coming updates, take some of the Warzone incentive away by not buying req packs. Alternatively you could be completely satisfied with only having Warzone and Arena and in that case go crazy, buy all the req packs you can afford!
All I’m saying is think before you buy a req pack. Think about what that sale means to 343 and the direction Halo is going.
Sorry if this post has annoyed you, feel free to call me names.
Isn’t it obvious when req sales start to stagnate, they release a limited time Spartan armory with “OMG awesome” new weapon skins, or a vehicle pack you can only buy with money?
They are only interested in milking a cash cow profit model of a game.

Exactly, this is what I’m talking about! The community needs to show them it doesn’t belong in Halo.

That literally occurred to me straight after I posted!
It’s true. Why would they release something if it didn’t have potential to sell more req packs?

arent req sales the main reason we’re getting any type of firefight at all, though?
The Req system is alright, if you don’t include real money in buying them, earnable REQ points is like credits in reach, and that is fine but on day one, when you saw they could be bought with cash, I just kind of let out a long drawn sigh

No.
The main reason we are getting Firefight at all is because there has been too much fan demand for 343 to ignore any longer.
Fan’s want gametypes. 343 start making gametypes, all be it very slowly.
Fan’s want PVE. 343 creates a PVE gamemode that feeds in to their microtransaction system.
343 arn’t stupid, they know where to spend their resources in the best way to keep them on the money train.

Spot on! I’m glad there are other people out there who see it.

I dunno man, the best strategy for 343 is to keep us happy so that we by the next game. I don’t think they’re more interested in “-Yoink!- us off” just to make a quick buck and ruin future sales.

That’s true! I feel like they’re trying to find the perfect line between making money and keeping us happy. I would say that enough people are satisfied at the moment to buy Halo 6, but if this continues I’m sure a lot of people will lose their patience.

They are keeping us happy. They’re giving us Gametypes and Firefight.
But they are slowly letting out the gametypes so that we spend longer in Warzone, under the roose that they are still building them. Which may be true, but at the end of the day the longer we spend in Warzone, the better it is for 343. And Firefight is coming, but rather than being its own entity, it is grafted on to the side of Warzone like the Prophet of Regret was a tendril of the Gravemind.

If they are keeping us happy, what’s wrong with the REQ system?
I don’t think that’s why they’re letting them out slowly, because its causing negative feelings aka not keeping “us” happy.
I think they put Firefight in Warzone because it makes sense there. They already have MP broken up into 2 distinct sections (Arena, WZ) and I can see why they’re bundling it up with WZ. Plus, the introduce this new system with REQs, why wouldn’t you want to tie that in with this awesome gamemode? They’re just taking this new thing that they have and using it to add some spice to a gamemode that we’re all familiar with.
My point is, non of their decisions are malicious or “JUST for money”.

I do too. Plus, making us happy means more money for them anyways. They’re a company, they need to make money

When did req pack sales stagnate and how/where did you come across this info?

I do think that selling req packs is definitely a strong aspect of most their decisions though. You made a good point there in that firefight fits nicely into the warzone sandbox, that’s exactly why they’re releasing it before infection or a community playlist. It’s not malicious in any way, just beneficial for them as a business. I just think it’s a shame that these playlists and game modes are less of a priority because they don’t help to sell req packs.
