I NEED YOUR OPINIONS EVERYONE BECAUSE Late 2018 I will buy the xboxonex all halo games ( big fan of halo BTW ) and equipements but there is still things that are missing like REQ System packs is it useful, supportive or just yet a failure ( all I rreally want is the KINGAND midnight VISOR) HELIOSKRILL WON’T BE A BIG PROBLEM.
I think having most REQ pack options obtainable only with microtransactions and then having powerful weapons and vehicles tied into those REQ packs is terrible. It’s a step in the wrong direction.
pay to win or pay to look good that is the question ?
Any form of microtransactions in full priced games is wrong in my book.
I despise micro transactions in most games. I think putting them in a major franchise doesn’t nothing but harm to the gaming industry.
The only plus to these MT in halo is that I got to play all content without having to pay for dlc. I’m mixed on this as well as most of the dlc added outside of the warzone maps (which were good) just wasn’t high quality. All the best maps in h5 arena are vanilla maps. So the microtransaction revenue didn’t add very much high quality content. It did however add free content.
I hope MT’s go. But as long as Microsoft owns halo I think they’re here to stay. I’ve said it many times, most of 343’s problems are Microsoft problems. If they have to be in game then the way they’re implemented in h5 wasn’t the most intrusive I’ve seen.
But to answer your question. No! Req packs are not necessary to enjoy the game. I have never bought any at all.
I still question just how truthful the “REQ Pack profits helped fund the DLC” for Halo 5 line that 343 Industries put out. Given how much content was recycled throughout the years, I’d expect a lot more originality from developers with increased revenue to update the game.
MTs in full priced games are always wrong. no exception. tied to a lootbox gambling system (like the REQ system in h5) makes them even worse. also an entire game mode (warzone) is now at least somewhat pay2win (warzone turbo is completly pay2win imo). if you want to play warzone from the start and don’t want to get stomped, you kind of have to spend money to compete
with the lootbox gambling system (req system) a big part of the game is designed around that, to get you to spend more money:
long grind,
the req system is prominently shown everywhere and pushed on to you,
customization directly tied to it, (and so many useless skins added, just to blow up the pool… many added after launch, so that people who already had everything have the glorious option to spend money on lootboxes again)
also the content we “got” bc of MTs wasn’t that great either
it also takes away resources (working hours) from creating worthy content.

I don’t have a problem with microtransactions if it’s a price for a fixed item. Charge me a fixed price for a cosmetic item. I won’t pay for rng loot systems that offer the chance of weapons and vehicles, XP boosts and cosmetics. The req system was a terrible addition to Halo imo.
I don’t personally mind the REQ system, because I’m more of an Arena kind of guy, but I can see what bothers people about it. A 60 dollar game with microtransactions? No, not a good formula.
Relative to a lot of other microtransaction games the REQ system is unobtrusive, but it’s definitely annoying.

no, how they did it was wrong, have it so we can earn specific rewards AND get them from REQs
The req system like any other system has it’s pros and cons. The req system could have been really good but they implemented it wrong. They pretty much just crammed everything in it and left nothing, well very little to be actually earned. So H5 is essentially one big grind of a game. The req system is pretty unrewarding. I wouldn’t use the word failure for the req system. There is potential with it if they can find a fair balance between stuff in the req system and having more actual earnable stuff. Some call it pay to win but it’s not IMO, its pay to skip the grind.
You can gamble to buy power in Warzone. So in that sense, it’s almost as bad as Battlefront 2’s micros. Of course, you have to have a certain level of energy to use it, but there’s nothing stopping anyone from getting all the best REQs with their credit card and stomping Warzone players into paste, later in matches.
In terms of Customization, all of them are locked behind the REQ system, minus a few, as the OP already knows. In essence, 343 took a massive part of Halo, and stuck it behind microtransactions. Go 343.
Overall, the REQ system was an abhorrent mess that seriously ruined parts of Halo that I really like. Most of the power issues are confined to Warzone (Which is probably the worst mode ever to be put into a Halo game), but customization was seriously nixed because 343/Microsoft got greedy. It’s worse than Halo 4’s and that was a step backward from Reach.
Personally, I’d skip Halo 5 and read a synopsis if you’re invested in the story. It’s a pretty awful Halo game.
Microtransactions/in-game purchases are terrible in their own right. Granted, I understand that companies need to make money, and microstransactions are part of that business model…but I think they give customers (especially loyal ones that keep coming back despite ongoing issues) the brush-off. The same can be said/equated with buyable DLC packs that are released within 3-6 months of a game’s release. It’s all an unnecessary money grab in my opinion.
Halo has been about balance and parity. Work with your team to control the map and vie for power weapons to win. Introducing superior upgrades skews that balance and fundamentally changes the game.
Aside from that, locking armor or customization behind paywalls is taking something a good portion of the community wants and bastardizes it. Personally, I don’t care much about customization (except for earning rare custom armors through achievement). For that reason and for the principle of the matter, I have not and will not purchase a REQ.
So OP, if you’re asking if you should purchase REQ’s, my response would be no. But to each his/her own. If you have the money and want everything that comes with in-game purchases, who am I to judge or tell you what to do?
It having micro transactions isn’t itself bad. I’ll never but a gold pack I think it’s more fun to grind out the points but that’s just me
