Is Microsoft Trying to Scare Us Away?

The new console simply called “Xbox” is going to cost $500? Seems a little pricy, even if there are a few new features. But it’s ok, right? Because there is a cheaper version for $300. No. If you want to get the $300 version, you are getting a subscription version of the console which will most likely require you to purchase monthly Xbox Live subscriptions. This would be alright for some people, but I don’t think that I could make this work. Also, an always online internet connection? What about when my internet service goes down temporarily for some reason? Am I not able to play the games that I purchased (even single player) since I can’t connect to the internet? And lets not forget about the supposed Kinect that will apparently always need to be active to play. There will also be an increase in video game costs, and possibly Xbox Live costs too.

It breaks my heart, it really does, to find out about all of these things. I have been a devoted Halo player for the past few years, and I haven’t had a different series of game in my Xbox for a long time. But what Microsoft is doing to the next-generation Xbox is scaring me. I was really excited to play Destiny on the Xbox, but I hear that it’s going to be on the PlayStation 4 too…

I don’t want to give up entirely on Microsoft, but I can honestly say that I have my suspicions that they might not be thinking of their costumers first. What do you guys think? Hopefully all of this bad news will turn around, and some good news will rise.

Millions of people subscribe to MMOs. If your internet goes down, you can’t play those. But that doesn’t stop people from buying them.

And what if XBL is free?

If Xbox Live was free I would definitely consider buying the next console.

Console and game prices are still going to be steep though…

The always online is a flawed feature. They tried it on Diablo III and Simcity. If you remember when Simcity came out most people couldn’t play it for atleast 2 weeks (even single player). From what I understand Diablo III also had problems with always online. If your internet is down you don’t get to play offline, if microsoft or the company that made the game’s servers are down then you don’t get to play. Simcity failed because EA had server problems. What if that happens day 1 with the new Xbox. I might be buying the PS4 instead.

And how often have the XBL servers been overwhelmed?

Rumors my friend. Just rumors.

Every important guy who is working for Microsoft bought Sony-Stocks. Now imagine what the plan is?

Poor Halo … poor 343 … poor us. sigh

If all of this is true…

Seriously though, if these rumors are true (which they may very well be after those tweets) then I am very tempted to get a PS4 instead.

PS4 has a few rumors saying its not going to be compatible with the old games as it is to far advanced, fair enough, but I think i saw its trying to pull the ole “always connected” thing to.

So, if every cottonpickin’ rumor is true, Ps4 & xbox have lost me, I’ll stick to my good ole’ xbox 360 slim. If I’m going to waste my money in this day & age anyway, it’d be one of these, http://www.magnumresearch.com/Firearms/Magnum-Research-Desert-Eagle-50-AE-Titanium-Gold.asp

But atlas I cannot afford it either, so I’m sol.

I want whatever your smoking man,

1st reason: Internet crashes due to server errors
2nd reason: largest ddos attack known to man almost broke the internet for a week, imagine a country scale ddos
3rd: People in this economy nowadays can’t afford water, how do you expect them to afford always online internet, a money tree?
4th: Get real, if the always online feature were to happen, you’d be always finding rich spoiled kids that are 10 - 16 playing, cursing, yelling all the time while the good people can’t play anymore because of the stupidest feature in the world
5th: Always online feature would be okay for MM games, but people who want to play the games offline couldn’t, so they’d be sol, & that’d make rich kids happy to be all on their own.

There are over 100 reasons why an ‘always online’ console is a very very very bad idea & always will be. Its fine for computers, they can easily be transported & you can still play games on it without being online, the only things you need to play online are mmo’s.

If I was at the company, I’d be constantly trying to turn their wi-fi off to get them to the reality it is a very bad idea.

I see you are making use of the button…

OT: I agree

Again, when was the last time the XBL servers were completely down, meaning no one could connect to XBL at all - not the multiplayer servers for a particular game but XBL as a whole?

So how often are you in a situation without internet?
How often do you have electricity but not internet?
How often do you have electricity, no internet, and absolutely positively must play video games by your self?
And finally are you really willing to buy a $500 console just because you can play it in that situation? Okay…

I’m glad you’re part of the small percentage of people that have absolutely no internet problems. Enjoy playing your games on the 3rd Xbox when the fourth one comes out. Oh wait, you wont be able to.

Have fun with your PS4 that won’t even be able to play PS3 games like Uncharted, God of War, or Last of Us. And don’t forget you won’t be able to play Destiny with your unreliable internet…

On the bright side you can look forward to playing Call of Duty: Ghosts’ campaign offline.

The next Xbox wont be able to play 360 games, how’s that make it better?

Halo Trilogy HD. No halo 4 multiplayer on the NextBox means there is a good chance the Halo Trilogy will have classic multiplayer matchmaking.

I think a step in the right direction for Microsoft would be to make it so you keep your avatar and achievement stuff on the new console and also have Xbox360 games compatible on it. Alot of people have worked hard to get achievements and avatar items on the 360, like me, and it would be great if they could be migrated (as well as your gamertag) onto the new xbox console.

That’s a good point, I didn’t think about that. I hope that we don’t all start with fresh accounts on the new console either.

We were able to transfer info from the original Xbox to the Elite and Slim though, right? So can’t we transfer from whatever we’re using now to the next-gen console?
