I haven’t seen any videos of it. Is it in the game?
Through the gameplay I have seen it looks like it is in
Indeed it is. I can’t remember where is was confirmed, but I’m 99% sure.
Sadly, it is.
> Sadly, it is.
Bleed through makes the game balanced.
Yes and it’s great to have it back…
> Sadly, it is.
Lol, bleedthrough is the best thing about Halo. None of that crappy sprint double melee in my Halo anymore
Is this how it was in Halo 3?
Yes, thankfully. No more sprinting across the map for double pummels, and no more losing DMR/BR battles for actually using your gun.
I may sound dumb for asking this…but whats bleed through?
Thankfully is in!
It’s in!
Now all they need to do is reduce melee strength by 25% and we’ll have a balanced and functioning melee system…
> I may sound dumb for asking this…but whats bleed through?
It’s when someone has less than full shields the melee bleed through the shields and damages the “Health”.
Essentially, it makes it so the melee is an attack with a set amount of damage, lets say 1000, and if the shields normally have say 1000 health, then they it will just affect the shields. However, if the shields have say 750, then that extra 250 damage from the shield will then affect the health of the person.
In Reach, no matter how many shields they had left the melee would ONLY break the shields, and not pass over to the health.

Awesome, that is how it should be!

If they do that then Melee will be pointless. The whole point of a melee attack is so that it tends to beat a weapon up close. There are exceptions, like the shotgun/energy sword/ect. but normally if you do it right, the melee is powerful enough to kill before the weapon. If the melee attack took FOUR hits to drain the shields, let alone kill someone, it would be useless, and therefore pointless to have. Honestly, I love how Halo’s melee system is. Not an insta kill like CoD, but not a weak pointless attack like a lot of shooters.

Have you ever played Halo 2? It takes more than 2 melees to kill and it’s lovely, though they were a bit too weak (I think it was 4 melees to kill, I haven’t played in a while so I’m not sure). 3 melees to kill would be PERFECT. Melees are supposed to supplement your weapons, not act as a weapon in their own right. In Halo 3 and Reach (with bleedthrough), 75% melee played SO much better.
Here’s a statement that summarizes my thoughts: “Melee should be a last resort, not a tactical move.”

I’m pretty sure Halo 2 had different melee levels, with a jumping melee doing the most damage, and stationary melees doing the least. I always thought that made a ton of sense, as well as it making sense to duck melees. I wish those were back.
Edit: I forgot that using larger weapons when meleeing, like the Rocket Launcher, did more damage too. That made a ton of sense as well nodnod.

Melee is designed as a reward for getting up close, and makes it so you have to choose between using your weapon and going for the melee. It should most certainly be a tactical move, as it gives you a choice between: Keep shooting or go for the melee.
If the melee took four/three hits to kill, then there would be no reason to use it. A weapon of any kind would be infinitely better, in almost any circumstance.
Also, a two hit kill up close is not a power weapon. Every close-range power weapon is a one hit kill at melee range. The ranged ones are two hit kill well out of melee range, and those are best used in conjunction with melee. So, two hit kill up close is no where near a power weapon.
Basically, anything more than a two hit kill with the melee makes it something you almost never wanna use.

Yeah, I love how the Brute Shot was super powerful due to the giant blade on the back of it. It made me mad in Halo 3 how bland the melee system was.
They should either remove melee bleed-through or reduce the melee damage. That would make it balanced.
