So I recently got placed Platinum 3 in the Fall Season of FFA.
Now, my first match as a ranked player, I ended up being rolled over… it was like not even close.
I went 12 K and 23 D.
When I check all the ranks of the other players.
1st Place - Diamond 4
2nd - Onyx
3rd - Onyx
4th - Onyx
5th - Diamond 6
6th - me - Platinum 3…
My search for matchmaking is set on “focused”.
How come I get set up on matches like this? I dont mind losing on my own tier… or winning, learning and ranking up slowly…
But how does this matchmaking system is working? Am I the only one being screwed?

No you’re not the only one. It’s frustrating trying to play a game you like when if the match is not lopsided the server poops on your game. 343 and MS screwed the pooch with the implementation of H5’s multiplayer.
Ya know, it’s odd, some days I feel like it works great, other days not so much. I probably play FFA 80% of the time and overall, I don’t have many issues there, every now and then I’ll just notice a rank far lower than the playing field sneak into a game - And I think this could either be because they are on a huge winning streak, or maybe it’s late at night and not as many people are online, I dk. But like I said, overall, not many complaints here with FFA.
Even when you do get mismatches, the good thing is that you will drop very little, if any, CSR if you lose to players much higher ranked than you. And if you beat those players your CSR goes up a ton.
I see rank mismatches a whole lot more in Team games, sometimes me and my buddies will match with people way out of our tier, whether it be higher or lower than our ranks, and others it feels like a pretty good day of matches so it’s really hard to say.
IMO it’s not CSR that’s the problem, it’s that MMR thing, or whatever your “invisible” rank thing is called, that makes crap like this happen. I think it is good and necessary for placement matches (i.e. You were diamond last season, and your MMR (invisible rank) is the same, so you are going to match similarly skilled players during placement matches instead of just anyone. But the MMR thing is still in effect after you place, so it’s having an influence on who you match with along with your CSR rank. If the MMR became inactive afer your 10 placement matches I think this would be a much less common problem people are having.
Also adding party restrictions would help with this, by matching teams of 4 with other teams of 4 and solo players/groups with less than 4 people together.
It’s broken in every game mode, I know this because I play in every game mode except breakout.

In my case was placed vs Onyx and High Diamonds on the ranking matches, placed 3rd and second on most of them. The last one placed last.
I won the first match on the ranking period, but it was against High Golds and Mid Platinum.
My complain is don’t Give me a platinum rank when you are always placing me against High Diamonds and Onyx… then rank me as a Low Diamond, then it would seem plausible.
But If I am Plat, then place me with Platinum Players!!!
I don’t think I am a average to good player… (not Onyx obviously). Would there be a possibility to have (for example) Gold Ranking but a Hidden MMR of a Diamond? and get placed against Diamonds even though that player is gold?
Is there a possible way to see your MMR if you are below Onyx?
