In the ending Halo 3 cutscene, during the memorial we see a rank patch for Master Chief. The rank patch is clearly the rank for Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy. In the US Navy it is held by one person. To me it makes sense that John is the MCPON since no one else is really referred to as Master Vhief besides him plus he is the most decorated Spartan in the UNSC. I aslo believe Installion00 did a video about this. Any thoughts?
At the end of Halo 3, John is listed MIA just like all other Spartans. But since everyone knows what that means for a spartan I would say that he was promoted to MCPON posthumously (since no one knew he was alive) out of a sign of respect for all he did for the UNSC and Humanity.
As for currently he probably hold the rank of Force Master Chief Petty Officer which is the level below MCPON and the rank John held since I believe becoming a Spartan since that was the highest rank a Spartan 2 could become and he was technically in charge of all of them. I’d have to go look it back up to be 100%

Thats true. I honestly believe he kept the rank since he is literally irreplaceable. We have seen the UNSC break the rules so to speak for John in some circumstances.
