OT: He probably is a -Yoink!-, but I believe that some Spartans (pretty sure they were IIIs) had pursued romantic relationships with each other sometime in the past, like Kat and Carter did.
> He most probably is. I read somewhere that their Armour (or their augmentations) suppresses their sexual urges.
It’s said that is a possible symptom, nothing more. It’s not like all 30 something years of his life is completely covered, even though I’m sure that would be important information. So use your own Imagination.
Lol Until Halo 4 was announced and all I wanted to expect ‘Love of a Spartan’ fanfic the cannon romance for Chief, since that fanfic story worked will in Canon, but due to Halo 4 that’s no longer an option. Read that fanfic and it’s sequel though, its top notch stuff.

> Yes, their augmentations eliminated their -Yoink!- drive.
It’s a possible side-effect from the Thyroid Implant. Not every single Spartan had suffered that side-effect, and the Spartan-IIIs didn’t even receive a Thyroid Implant.
As others have said, augmentations for the SPARTAN-II’s did not guarantee a suppressed “-Yoink!- drive,” only that it was a risk from the Thyroid implant procedure. I’m sure its hard to believe, but I very much doubt that the UNSC intended to relentlessly deploy their best soldiers for all 27 years of the war. For their own psychological health and unit morale, they would have NEEDED to have mandatory rest and relaxation periods every so often.
Would that include sexual relations with each other? I’m doubtful that it would happen, but its certainly plausible for two persons to succumb to feelings given their close proximity to one another for so long. At the end of the day, Spartans are still just Human and while they may believe that more important things need to be done, sexual urges will still plague them in a relaxed state.

As a side effect of genetic augmentation, ALL spartans lost their -Yoink!- drives. Stated in every book that mentions the spartans background. You probably got that crap about Kat and Carter from some porny fanfic.

The books said that it had the possibility to reduce their -Yoink!- drive not kill it. Read more carefully.
I don’t know personally if that augment risked or guaranteed loss of -Yoink!- drive, but the SPARTAN-IIIs didn’t get that one. The Kat and Carter thing did happen, I remember reading such from some official thing before Reach came out.
Or at the least, I’m certain it wasn’t from some fanfic.
