Is it wrong? Not really no. It’s about as laughable as the dude who AFKs for the wasp to respawn, but unfortunately in a challenge based progression system where you’re restricted to a specific weapon, you’re going to focus on trying to get that specific weapon as often as possible. Could you change your gameplay so that you pick it up when you see it rather than camping it, yeah probably.
As to whether you can justify it solely on the fact that you have an XP boost burning. No not really. But then again what does it matter really? On here you’ll either get a bunch of yes’ because we all feel the XP boost and challenge pain. But you’re also going to likely get a bunch of no’s from people too for detracting from anyone else being able to use the weapons you’re camping.
No one else seemed to care at all for the rockets I was camping. And I even got the invis every time too because again, no one was around.
I also ended up getting a lot of kills and participated in the objective anyways, yet everytime my squad mate saw me there, he literally was "no"ing at me with his character. Like… I thought BTB was just fun chaos, not serious judgment time?
You will annoy people especially when we’re all in the same challenge boat. I don’t know how many times I wasn’t able to grab the wasp for single chaingun kill because ‘XxDankGamerxX’ wanted to top the scoreboard in casual slayer, and I imagine they didn’t care too much about that either.
It’s up to you whether you care about the other people in your game, or just get on with it.
Ha. I was doing this for my Get 10 kills with the Ravager challenge. Absolutely the worst challenge in the game and turns me into the worst teammate since it is basically impossible to get kills with this weapon.
Just a warning to anyone who gets me on their team in the next few days… I still have 9 kills to go
The thing is, I’ve never had to deal with this crap in past Halos… but here with are with this system and burning 2x XPs.
People wouldn’t bother me in older Halos when I would camp weapons either for the sake of grabbing the next power weapon spawns to mess around with, ya know?
It’s like suddenly the community is vitriolic and divided unnecessarily when they can just play how they want in casual playlists and enjoy themselves.
I’m afraid you’re missing the point; People are ‘bothering’ you because you’re camping weapons in a scenario where it’s likely another 2-3 people on your team need the same weapon.
Nothing changed with the community, everyone wants to, and should be allowed to progress, and when they try to they find this guy camping the weapon spawns. Simply flip the scenario and imagine yourself 1 kill away with a teabagger 5000 but unable to get that kil all night because someones camping it.
If you’re going to be camping the weapons, own that fact. Own that you’re doing it to complete your challenges because you want to. Don’t hide behind the ‘what happened to the community’ or 'the challenges are making me ’
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to complete the challenges and camping weapons, just own the fact you’ll annoy people.
Okay, but I’m saying no one was around specifically for this situation I’m talking about. I was camping it, sure. Which means I saw who was frequenting the spot. And it was only the one dude judging me and leaving lol. If he stuck around? I would’ve split it with him. So you assume I take it from others but I’m explaining to you I am in fact not. In this specific case.
Microjustification Because you’re camping the spot you’re assinging yourself as the arbiter of who gets the powerup. It’s possible they saw you there several times and gave up.
People will judge you for your behaviour like I said, It’s just more prominent now that everyone needs it rather than those who wanted to mess around with the big gun.
I’m not the arbiter lol. I’m saying I would share. Sharing is now me owning it and being the merciful God who allows his subjects time with the weapon? Idk that’s kind of a stretch.
And as for if people saw me there? No, again, I was running to the spot with no one on the path to it anywhere to be seen. It was the cave spawn and it’s like no one was on that side of the map for some reason.
I am stressing myself over it because I don’t want my 2x XP wasted and now I have been put in this situation of “oh I should be care free and maybe the challenges will get done” or “hey the weapon I need spawns on this map, let’s get it done!” I actually paid for a pair of 2x XP, so I even literally have money on the line even if it’s 0.50 each one.
You say I’m making some excuse that the challenges make me do it. Yes they do, specifically with 2x XP. If I didn’t have it on the line, I would be 100% with what you’re saying and suck it up, but I truly think what I’m doing is just the crap way I have to go about it AND at least I’m doing it in BTB and not like Ranked.
This thread is going round in circles so I’ll end my bit on:
Do it and get moaned at
Dont do it, and don’t get moaned at.
Don’t try to find a middle ground on the forums because sadly there isn’t one.
You’re entirely at liberty whether you use your 2XP tokens, and the problem you’re describing is something out of the developers control. XP Tokens tick down in the menus, and from the behaviour I’ve seen as long as you start your game with a token stil active (even if it’s like 1 minute left) you’ll still get your double XP at the end. The developers can fix problems such as the timer counting down outside of the game, they can’t control how you want to optimise your use of the tokens.
I’m not saying your making excuses, you are being disruptive to other players, but I’m telling you that you shouldn’t really care all that much if you’re adamant on completing your challenges within your own self imposed time frame.
Maybe someone else has what you’re looking for, but if it’s empathy for this specific situation you probably won’t get that.
I’ll end with personally I don’t feel it’s worth the effort anymore to worry about completing challenges religiously. We get 1 free level per day (2 if you use your boost efficiently and play short games). Do the challenges as and when and you’ll have a much more enjoyable time.
Funny you mention it, but someone mentioned a possible change to it I thought might be a decent compromise. It’s that they could double the XP of all the currently active challenges or something similar. That way there’s no time crunch or pressure to get it all done in one game. Maybe that’s a good idea maybe not, just thought I’d say.
Also, idk… the time frame is only self imposed as much as I turned on the 2x XP lol. They made them time based, so… yeah. But I guess I get what you’re saying.
That’s precisely why the system needs to change so we are not required to play like idiots to rank up. It’s not your fault anymore. If you’re still doing that when you don’t need those challenges to rank up, then you’re scum. Haha
No, it’s not wrong, I can understand other peoples frustration, especially if they need the weapon too, but it’s not your fault that the challenge system is what it is and that sometimes the most effective way to complete them is by doing unsavory things.
At this point I would only use 2XP boosts when starting the first game of the day.
That way you’re doubling those higher payout daily play 1 game challenges. Then you don’t have to be super upset if you miss out on finishing some of the weekly challenges while the boost is active.
