is it true that spartan ops requires gold?

I read that it can be played via co-op & in solo, so why would gold be needed for solo play?

points points points

[*Online multiplayer and Spartan Ops requires Xbox LIVE Gold membership (sold separately).

Minimum 8GB USB Flash Drive or Xbox 360 Hard Drive required for Halo Infinity Multiplayer.

For an optimal experience, play with Xbox 360 Hard Drive.

(For Xbox 360 4 GB, Arcade and Core consoles, Xbox 360 Hard Drive sold separately).](http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Halo-4/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024d530919)

I am not sure why… possibly its delivery method.

that sucks, so it’s not free is it.

Yep, seems to require Gold even for solo play.

This is likely due to compromise with Microsoft- they don’t like releasing content on Live for free. So even though Spartan Ops first season is free, people have to pay for a Gold subscription to get it and use it.

Normally, a lot of people wouldn’t think it that big of a deal, as most people see halo players as all online players, but a good sized chunk of Halo players don’t do multiplayer and stay offline. By adding a story component to Spartan Ops, it attracts those who don’t want to play any multiplayer, and forces them to shell out for a Gold subscription.

Basically, Microsoft is trying to get more money off of this.

well if these missions are decent, i’ll just get a 12 month card.

Yes

Gold is required …

Still, you could always wait ten weeks and then get a code or something along those lines.

You’re getting new content via live. Why is this even an issue? Not that a Gold Membership is expensive at all.

if you’re only in it for the spartan ops missions then I would suggest you wait until the season is over (2 months or so) then get a 48 hours trial from someone, then proceed to download all the spartan ops missions. this would most likely mean you wouldn’t have to spend 50 or so bucks by buying gold for a year.

as for microsoft well, they’re greedy nuff said.

Probably wouldn’t work; it would seem that Spartan Ops requires a Gold subscription to play it just like FireFight and other Matchmaking game types, not just to download.

Sucks, I know.

So does that mean the game disc will have no Spartan Ops content on it at all? Meaning you have to download it on day one?

firefight in the previous games was free to play in solo.

but like you guys said, i’ll probably get a 12month sub later down the line. 48hrs isn’t long enough.

I bet you’re right about that one, I sure feel sorry for people who don’t have gold.

48 hour codes aren’t too hard to find. It’s if they work for this or not that I’m concerned with.

Damn -Yoink!-…

Greedy? Which would you say is better: Playstation’s service or Xbox? There’s a reason why you pay a premium.

And as far as fresh new content when is that ever free? 343 isn’t charging for Spartan Ops. This is the most content for the least buck you’re going to spend. Jeesh

I think it’s rather because of the size then other reasons. Spartan Ops will most likely take a lot of freespace and they wouldn’t be able to put it on 1 disc.

So they decided to make it downloadable content on XBOX Live. And downloadable content on XBOX Live requires Gold.

This is just my theory. Could be wrong too.

lame.

I am always against games making certain parts of the game required to be connected to the web to play when they are single player aspects of the game.

I like call of duty for a few reasons. They let you play modes like black ops combat training and zombies I believe offline and in MW3 survival mode is offline.

Knowing they are possible to be played offline means it won’t matter in the future when xbox live is gone and dead if I can still play that part of the game I paid for. I still play starwars battlefront II offline on my xbox console. Anything that is single player that requires internet to play means it’s only around for a limited time sadly … and that simple fact is something I hate knowing. Plus if your internet goes down forget playing your single player game!

Indeed, and who knows, maybe gold is just for the multiplayer part.

guess we’ll find out more closer to release.

At least it will give players who normally wouldn’t step into matchmaking a chance to try it out. Other than that, it’s pretty lame, just be thankful -Yoink!- isn’t making you buy the spartan ops episodes, on top of that.
