Is it too late to ask..?

So besides the use of an elite controller, which still only masks the issue instead of offering a true ability, is it too late to ask for a more customization options for button layouts? lol Yes I know the game has been out for over a year, but hey other games offer it and I think I wouldn’t be the only one who’d benefit from it.

Right now I play with the Fishstick layout, for some reason it just makes sense to me probably because of all the Borderlands I’ve played. But there is one classic feature to Halo controls that I feel would really make more sense. I want my melee button to be the B button, not the thumb stick. That feels like Halo to me, but the option that allows for a B button melee changes my zoom and grenades and honestly messes me up everytime I try to do the switch.

My perfect button layout would be Fishstick with a B button melee and thumb stick crouch. Any chance that 343i could give us some more customization controller options?

What’s your perfect controller layout?

Since you can remap your controller using the Xbox Accessories app, I don’t think they’ll bother. They tend to use the Xbox’s built-in systems, rather than supporting things in the game (DVR, etc).

I thought you already can remake your controller layout? ^^like plastic said, there’s no reason to expand on it when we can already do it with the Xbox app.

Wouldn’t remapping switch those two buttons across everything I do with my xbox though? dashboard, apps, playing and pausing videos, everything would suffer from remapping.

Now, if It would only remap for specifically Halo 5 in-game options, then it would be useful to me. I just don’t see this as a solution, but thanks for posting!

yeah, man. Xbox gives you the ability so each specific game doesn’t have to.

This is why the button remapping needs to have preferences saved. There are so many games where I want to use RT instead of X for attacking, but can’t because it would screw up my FPS experience in other games.

Well, I have an Elite so I’m not sure if it’s still possible with the standard, but you should be able to save settings to use for different games.

The Elite allows for up to 256 configurations per user and two stored on the controller (one and none for the standard). It’s an upsell feature for Microsoft and 343 likely operates within those boundaries.

I’m not sure since I only play halo games anyways(and it’s been about a year since I’ve messed with the control setups) but I thought you could configure your setup for each game if I remember correctly. There could be a setup for halo 5, overwatch, doom, without forcing the same layout on everything. I’ve also never had issues with youtube, twitch, Netflix, explorer, etc etc when it comes to using other apps.

If your looking for an old school halo games layout I suggest the recon layout that’s my favorite

I thought you could change and button to what ever? Or is that now only for elite controller?

It only lets me save one button profile over the whole username. The app for some reason isn’t showing me what I have mapped and is pretty much blank now for some reason. I have to right down every thing I’m trying to map and it takes me hours to just map my halo 5 buttons. One time I spent about 4-6 hours just trying to get the map set up I designed. The app also is buggy and some times a change isn’t done or it does some thing different cause like I said I wrote it down so I could unmap and remap to find that the same changes didn’t always end with the same out come.

For my buttons mapped using the app for halo 5 specifically it messes with what is used going from one page to an other, flight controls for halo 5 aren’t optimised with the lay out based on Spartan movement, what is the select and back buttons, a lot of games become unplayable like I can’t play gtav because the set up is counter intuitive to how it plays, forge is difficult to use cause the button tips are confusing.

Thankfully overwatch button mapping is very user friendly and doesn’t interfere with it. I only just noticed I can map multiple Heros with different set ups. My mouth literally dropped when I saw it. The only downside is they don’t let you idle for very long even in a custom game but cause the mapping is so user friendly it’s done very quickly compared to the app.

If they ever added button mapping in game I think there would need to be set UI mapping, multiple controls per vehicle, one for Spartans. (Even multiple ones for Spartans cause each mapped consept is specific to a certain style of play)

This could do with a megathead the ammount of times its come up.

I just want the ability to map the triggers to the bumpers, or a controller layout that supports this…
